Honey Wheat Bread image

This actually is a recipe from school that I have down-sized to make just 1 loaf and I have also added honey and some other small alterations. Do not get discouraged about making bread it is actually very easy and so much better for you than purchased bread. I have also used this recipe for cinnamon rolls.

Time 3h

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 tsp sugar, granulated
1 pkg active dry yeast
1/2 c water, warm
1 3/4 c whole wheat flour
3 1/2 c white bread flour
2 Tbsp honey
2 tsp salt
1 1/2 c milk, warm
1/2 c vegetable oil

Steps:

  • 1. In the bowl you are using to mix the the bread in: add water, sugar, yeast, stir and let sit until bubbly
  • 2. In a separate bowl measure the flours and salt.
  • 3. In a measuring cup, warm the milk in the microwave (45 seconds), add the oil and honey
  • 4. Insert your dough hook to your mixer. Add the milk mixture to the yeast mixture. Place bowl on mixer then add all of the flour mixture to your bowl. Mix on #2 until all the flour is incorporated, feel the dough, (if is too sticky add up to 1/4 cup of flour and then knead (on #2) until dough is smooth and elastic. Depending on the time of year, (flour can have more moisture in the summer months) this is why you may have to add extra flour.
  • 5. Place dough in a warm place, put a little oil on the top of the dough, cover and let rise until double in size. Roll out to make 1 large loaf of bread, 2 small or up to 24 rolls. Cover bread and let rise again to double in size. Bake 375 for about 35 minutes.
