Homemade Applesauce image

This sugar-free applesauce is a cinch to make at home in your Dutch oven.

Yield Makes 6 cups

Number Of Ingredients 4

3 to 4 pounds unpeeled Royal Gala or Granny Smith apples, cored and coarsely chopped
1/2 cup water
Special Equipment
6- quart Dutch oven or heavy- bottomed pot with lid, immersion blender or electric blender, four 12- ounce mason jars

Steps:

  • Place the apples and the water in the pot, cover, and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce to medium heat and cook covered for 15 to 20 minutes or until the apples are very so.
  • Cool for 5 minutes and puree to a desired consistency with the blender.
  • Transfer to the mason jars and refrigerate.
  • Keeps in the refrigerator for up to a week and in the freezer up to 3 months.
