Gumbo image

This makes for a great meal any time of year. You can put in all shrimp, all chicken or all sausage. We like it best with a little bit of all 3 meats and alot of okra for a very hearty dish.

Number Of Ingredients 13

2 - onions, sliced
1 - green pepper, diced
1-2 package(s) frozen cut okra or 1-2 lbs fresh, stemmed & cut into 1" pieces
2 tablespoon(s) butter
3 cup(s) water
1 teaspoon(s) hot sauce
2 tablespoon(s) flour
1 can(s) diced tomatoes
1 teaspoon(s) salt
1/4 teaspoon(s) pepper
1/8 teaspoon(s) garlic powder
1 - bay leaf
1-2 pound(s) any combination of the following: shrimp, diced chicken and/or sliced sausage

Steps:

  • Saute vegetable in butter until done.
  • Add flour & stir until bubbly.
  • Remove from heat & stir in all ingredients, except shrimp.
  • Simmer, uncovered for 45 minutes on low.
  • Add shrimp & cook until no longer pink.
  • Remove the bay leaf & discard.
  • Serve over cooked rice.
