I am allergic to mushrooms, so I have to alter this recipe a little bit. Instead of cream of mushroom soup, I use cream of potato. I add a step and heat it with cooked bacon.

Steps:
- Cook bacon in skillet until firm. Drain on paper towels, and crumble.
- Heat soup in a medium saucepan with bacon, adding milk gradually.
- Stir soup mixture, soy sauce, black pepper, beans and 1 1/3 cups onions in a 3-quart casserole.
- Bake at 350°F. for 25 minutes or until the bean mixture is hot and bubbling. Stir the bean mixture. Sprinkle with the remaining onions.
- Bake for 5 minutes or until the onions are golden brown
