Grandma's Vegetable Soup image

My grandmother used to make this sweet and sour soup and can it. EVERY time I make this, it gets rave reviews. Grandma would be flattered by all the "mmmmmmmmmmmmmms." Great with crusty bread or rolls.

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 stick celery, diced large
2 carrots, diced large
1 medium onion, diced
1 medium head of cabbage, chopped large
1 lb stew beef, cut into small pieces
3 large potatoes, peeled and diced large
1 can(s) tomato juice or v-8
1/4 c ketchup
2 Tbsp white vinegar
2 Tbsp olive or canola oil
1/4 c sugar
salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • 1. In a large stock pot, brown meat in oil. Add onion and continue until softened. Add the rest of the ingredients. Give it a good stir.
  • 2. Reduce heat and simmer all day. The aroma alone will make you crazy hungry. Enjoy!
