Grandma's Applesauce Cake image

I found this recipe in my late Grandma's recipe box shortly after my mother passed away. It was from my Great Grandmother. It's a wonderfully moist cake that I hope you will enjoy.

3 c applesauce, unsweetened
4 c flour
1 c raisins
1 c dates and cherries
2 c nuts
2 c sugar
1 c melted shortening
2 tsp soda
2 tsp nutmeg
2 tsp cloves
2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 c pineapple
1 egg

Steps:

  • 1. Sift flour, soda ,salt, add raisins,dates, cherries and nuts set aside
  • 2. Beat egg with the sugar then add applesauce,spices,pineapple and melted shortening
  • 3. Combine dry ingredents with the wet mix well. Place in greased and floured bunt pan. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. Insert toothpick to check for doneness.
