What an ugly name for this good looking chocolate cookie sandwich!! Mom was attracted to unusual food names! I suppose you could change it to "Whoopie" because they look very similar, but I'll leave that up to your discretion!! Both of those names are too odd for me!! Enjoy!

Number Of Ingredients 17

COOKIE:
2 c sugar
1/2 c butter
2 whole eggs
1 c sour milk (or buttermilk)
1 c boiling water
4 c flour
2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c cocoa
CREAMY FILLING:
5 Tbsp sifted flour
1 c milk
1 c sugar (or 2 1/2 c sifted powdered sugar)
1 c butter
1 tsp vanilla

Steps:

  • 1. COOKIE: CREAM TOGETHER: sugar, butter, eggs
  • 2. ADD: sour milk and boiling water
  • 3. SIFT together: flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cocoa -- then add to wet ingredients
  • 4. DROP: by teaspoons full on ungreased cookie sheet
  • 5. BAKE 450 F for 10 minutes
  • 6. FILLING: COOK TOGETHER IN DOUBLE BOILER: flour and milk until it forms a thick paste -- let it cool
  • 7. CREAM the butter, sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy.
  • 8. ADD: the flour paste and beat again till fluffy, then spread between cooled cookie gobs
