Fresh Green Beans in Heaven Sauce image

We make this with the green beans we grow in our garden in the summer. We are always looking for different ways to use up our home-grown veggies than the usual. I've adapted this recipe to my family's tastes. It's not too spicy for me, and not spicy enough for The Hubs! Adjust the sambal at the table for those who like a bigger...

2 lb green beans, trimmed
1/4 c butter
1 large sweet onion finely minced
5 large cloves garlic, minced
2 Tbsp sesame seeds
1/3 c soy sauce
3 Tbsp mayonnaise
2 Tbsp thai sweet chili sauce
2 tsp sambal oelek (or sriracha)
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp allspice (i don't use this, but if you like allspice, then do!)

Steps:

  • 1. Steam beans in a steamer basket, covered, above boiling water until crisp-tender. This will take 5-9 minutes. Remove beans and spread out on a baking sheet while preparing the Heaven Sauce,
  • 2. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and cook, stirring for about 2 minutes. Add the sesame seeds and saute, stirring, until the seeds are golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
  • 3. In a bowl whisk together the soy sauce, mayonnaise, sambal, sweet chili sauce, black pepper and allspice (if using) Add this mixture to the skillet and combine.
  • 4. Add the beans to the skillet and toss to coat. Serve.
