Duchess Dogs image

Number Of Ingredients 8

1/2 cup onion, diced
5 tablespoons butter
3 cups boiling water
1 1/4 cups cold milk
1 (8-ounce) package instant mashed potato flakes
1 egg, beaten
1 pound all-beef hot dogs
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, sauté onion in butter. Add boiling water to pan; remove from heat. Add milk; stir in potato flakes. Cool slightly; stir egg into potatoes. Meanwhile, simmer hot dogs in a saucepan of boiling water until heated through. Put hot dogs in a lightly greased 13"x9" baking pan and partially split them lengthwise. Spoon mashed potatoes evenly into hot dogs; sprinkle with cheese. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes, until cheese is melted.
