Corn Bread image

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup yellow cornmeal
1 cup all-purpose flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
1 teaspoon sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 cup milk
1/4 cup melted shortening, plus grease for pan

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  • Combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, pepper, sugar, egg and milk. Blend well with a wire whisk. Stir in shortening.
  • Grease a shallow baking pan, 9 by 9 by 2 inches. Pour in batter, and bake 30 minutes, or until done. Do this a day early.
