Company Mac and Cheese image

I found this recipe in a Taste of Home publication. It's a drier macaroni and cheese, elegant in its flavors, surprising in its texture.

Number Of Ingredients 11

7 ounce(s) macaroni
6 tablespoon(s) butter
3 tablespoon(s) flour
2 cup(s) milk
8 ounce(s) cream cheese, cubed
8 ounce(s) cheddar
2 teaspoon(s) spicy brown mustard
1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
1/4 teaspoon(s) pepper
3/4 cup(s) dry bread crumbs
2 tablespoon(s) fresh parsley

Steps:

  • Cook macaroni according to package directions. Meanwhile, melt 4 tablespoons butter in a large saucepan. Stir in flour until smooth. Gradually add milk. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes. Reduce heat; add cheeses, mustard, salt, and pepper. Stir until cheese is melted and sauce is smooth. Drain macaroni; add to the cheese sauce and stir to coat. Transfer to a greased shallow 3 quart baking dish. Melt the remaining butter; toss with bread crumbs and parsley. Sprinkle over macaroni. Bake, uncovered, at 400*F for 15 - 20 minutes or until golden brown.
