CHOCOLATE SYRUP CAKE image

Cake:
1/2 cup (1 stick) room temp butter
3/4 cp sugar
4 eggs
1 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1, 16oz can chocolate syrup
1 Tbsp vanilla
Topping:
1/2 cup butter (no substitute)
3/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350ยบ Cake: In a large bowl cream together butter, sugar and eggs with mixer. Add chocolate syrup and vanilla. In a separate bowl mix dry ingredients together; flour, baking powder and salt. Add dry ingredients to wet and beat well. Pour batter into greased and floured 3 quart baking pan (9x13"). Bake for 30 min. Topping: (begin preparing about 10 min before cake is done.) In a saucepan bring butter, sugar and milk to a rolling boil (stir only once). Remove from heat and stir in the chocolate chips until melted and smooth--no lumps. Gently pour over hot cake. Let the liquid topping spread and settle. It will harden to a shiny smooth surface.
