CHERRY WHISPER'S image

This is one of my Grandma's recipes I remember her making these for party's and Christmas. Grandma called these cherry wink's I call them cherry whispers that reminded me of Grandma when she talked she never had a bad day or a cross word.

Number Of Ingredients 13

1/3 cup(s) shortning
1/2 cup(s) sugar
1 teaspoon(s) greated lemon peel
1 teaspoon(s) vanilla
1 - egg
2 tablespoon(s) milk
1 cup(s) all purpose flour
- candied cherries
1/2 teaspoon(s) baking powder
1/4 teaspoon(s) baking soda
1/2 cup(s) raisins
1/2 cup(s) walnuts or pecans
1 1/2 cup(s) wheat flakes, crushed

Steps:

  • Cream together first 4 ingredients. Add milk and egg; beat thoroughly.
  • Sift dry ingredients together add to creamed mixture mixing well
  • Stir in raisins and nuts..Drop by teaspoons onto crushed bran flakes toss lightly to coat.
  • Place on a greased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Top with a candied cherry half.
  • Bake at400 degrees about 12 minutes. Cool slightly, remove from pan. Makes 3 dozen
