Anyone trying this recipe needs to know how to can and process. I am not a canner by any means..but just bought a new cookbook while on vacation and found this yummy recipe for homemade cherry pie filling..sounds good to me, not that I plan on canning anytime soon, lol!! I may make this and try freezing the portions instead. My...

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 qt pitted sour cherries
4 c white sugar
6 c water
1 1/2 c clear jel
red food coloring (optional)
1 pkg cherry kool-aid

Steps:

  • 1. Place water, sugar, cherries, food coloring, and kool-aid in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil. Mix clear jel and 1 1/2 cups cold water and dissolve well. Add to cherry mixture and cook till clear and thickened. Spoon into quart jars. Process for 20-25 minutes. Yield: 6-7 quarts
