Cabbage Rolls image

My nana used to make these once a week and there was not one left and she doubled it.

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 large cabbage
1 lb lean ground beef or turkey/chicken
1 onion peeled and grated
1/2 c rice (uncooked)
1/2 c water
1 egg
1/4 c sugar
1 Tbsp lemon juice
1 tin 28 oz. tomatoes

Steps:

  • 1. Remove core from cabbage and set into boiling water for 15 minutes to loosens leaves.
  • 2. Mix together meat, onion, rice, water, egg and sugar. Mix well.
  • 3. Remove leaves from cabbage. Put meat mixture in center of each leaf. Roll up and secure with a toothpick.
  • 4. Put into a large pan and cover with tomatoes and lemon juice.
  • 5. Simmer for 2 hours adding more tomato juice or tomatoes if needed. Cook at 350
