My kids didn't like tomato based stews. I ran across this recipe from an old A-1 recipe booklet that I modified. Even my picky husband liked this one.

Steps:
- 1. Place 3 cups water in saucepan and heat to boiling. Drop in bouillon cubes to melt.
- 2. Meanwhile, Heat vegetable oil over medium heat and brown stew meat.
- 3. Place carrots, potatoes and onion in bottom of crockpot.
- 4. Add browned stew meat on top of vegetables.
- 5. Check bouillon cubes to see if they have dissolved. If not crush until all is dissolved.
- 6. Add A-1, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, pepper and salt. Pour over stew meat in crockpot; add bay leaf. Cook for 8-10 hours.
