ALL DAY CUBE STEAKS image

I have never made cube steaks in the slow cooker before but I got to thinking, wouldn't they just be oh, so tender? That's a problem I've always had with them before. So I'm giving these a try and hope you will try them too. Photo: foodnetwork.com

Time 8h25m

Number Of Ingredients 9

1/2 c all purpose flour
2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp dry mustard
2 lb cube steak
2 Tbsp vegetable oil
1 large onion, sliced
1 pkg brown gravy mix
1 c water

Steps:

  • 1. In a medium bowl, mix together flour, salt, garlic powder and ground mustard.
  • 2. Dredge the cube steaks in the flour mixture.
  • 3. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the steaks in vegetable oil. Remove and place steaks in the slow cooker.
  • 4. Add the onion to the same skillet and cook for a few minutes.
  • 5. In a small bowl, mix the gravy mix and water together. Pour into the skillet with onions, scraping up the browned pieces.
  • 6. Pour the gravy and onions over the meat in the slow cooker. Cook on LOW for 7-8 hours, or on HIGH for 5-6 hours. Serve with mashed potatoes to take advantage of the rich gravy.
  • 7. NOTE: You may want to lower the quantity of salt if you are sensitive to it or watching your salt intake.
