2 teaspoons sugar
3 medium passion fruit
4 1/2 cups water
1 lemon, juice of

Steps:

  • Cut the fruits into half and scoop out the inside on a plate.
  • Put in a blender along with the remaining ingredients, except the lemon juice, and process until smooth.
  • Strain and add lemon juice.
  • Serve chilled over ice cubes in tall glasses on a hot sunny afternoon!

Read this recipe in a magazine many years ago. I think it tastes better then the overly sugared pre-made stuff you get in Hawaii. Or as most people have been introduced to it, the glass of it on all inner island flights on Hawaiian Air. Makes a pretty decent booze mixer too ;-)

1/2 cup orange juice, Minute Maid no-pulp

12 ounces passion fruit juice (frozen and concentrated)
1/2-1 teaspoon white sugar
2 cups crushed ice
water, add when needed

Steps:

  • Blend all ingredients in an electric blender until sugar is dissolved.
  • Then add more ice and water to bring volume to roughly 2 quarts.
  • ** Note: if fresh passion fruit can be obtained, a far superior juice can be made in the following manner:.
  • For 2 quarts of juice, use the pulp of 4-6 fruit.
  • Cut fruit in half, scoop out pulp including the seeds.
  • Add pulp, sugar, ice and enough water to make 2 quarts.
  • Strain juice in order to remove pulverized seeds.
  • Enjoy!
