MY VERY OWN FRESCAVENA - OATMEAL DRINK

My Very Own Frescavena - Oatmeal Drink image

Frescavena is an oatmeal beverage very common in latinamerica. I was a bit put off by the high amounts of sugar in the commercial version, yet I liked the idea of having a creamy and nutritious quick drink for my children. This is our favourite version so far

Time 10m

Yield 1 can, 30 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

3/4 cup oatmeal (quick or regular)
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup cocoa (optional) or 1/2 cup strawberry, freeze-dried
vanilla sugar (optional)

Steps:

  • Process the oatmeal and sugar in batches in a coffee grinder. This assures a fine powder that will dissolve easily.
  • If using freeze dried strawberries process them in the coffee grinder too.
  • Put everything in a suitable container, give it a couple shakes.
  • When ready to serve add 1 tbsp of mix to a cup of warm milk (for extra creamy) or water and mix. For better results or for drinking it cold use a blender.

Avena means oats in English and it's a traditional Colombian drink that is rich, creamy and delicious. Great with breakfast or you could serve it at any time of the day. I use almond or soy milk to make this vegan. Use your preferred milk. From my columbian recipes.

FRESCAVENA-LIKE OATMEAL DRINK MIX

Frescavena-Like Oatmeal Drink Mix image

Similar to the popular Latin American drink from Quaker "Frescavena". This oatmeal based beverage is nutritious and refreshing. My 18 month old daughter loves it and after not finding it anywhere in stores I had to come up with a way to make it myself EASILY. I love this because I can keep it on hand and scoop it into a glass of milk and its ready to go!

Number Of Ingredients 2

8 ounces Gerber oatmeal cereal for baby
1 cup granulated sugar

Steps:

  • Blend until the flakes are no longer visible and it becomes a fine powder (3-5 minutes).
  • Add sugar and blend again until it is mixed thoroughly and all the same fine powder consistency.
  • Add 2 tablespoons (add more or less to taste) of mixture to 8 ounces of milk or water and blend in a blender or shaker cup with 2 ice cubes and enjoy!
  • Optional additions: add vanilla, cinnamon or strawberry quick to final beverage. Can be served as a warm beverage as well.
