2 teaspoons Dijon-style mustard
1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh dill

2 slices of rye bread, toasted
2 thin slices of cooked ham
2 thin slices of Swiss cheese
1/2 small red onion, sliced thin

On a baking sheet spread one side of each slice of toast with half the mayonnaise mixture, top each toast with a slice of the ham, half the mushrooms, a slice of the Swiss cheese, half the onion, and salt and pepper to taste, and broil the sandwiches under a preheated broiler about 4 inches from the heat for 1 to 2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and browned lightly.

HOT OPEN-FACED SANDWICH

Hot Open-Faced Sandwich image

I used to get this all the time at a nearby coffee shop when I was in college, and it's still a favorite lunch. At home, I generally use whole wheat instead of the original white bread, mustard instead of mayonnaise and a slice of processed cheddar cheese instead of American. Tastes great either way. Really be generous with the pepper!

MINI HOT HAM & SWISS SANDWICHES

Mini Hot Ham & Swiss Sandwiches image

This is the greatest recipe for hot ham & cheese sandwiches. Works as a quick dinner item or appetizer. You can make whatever quantity you need. I usually make 12 in a 9X13 pan. Sometimes I substitute turkey and provolone for the ham and swiss for a different taste.
