Here's a quick, easy teriyaki stir fry that uses hamburger instead of the traditional beef strips. It has a nice sauce and is different enough to be a treat for the taste buds! Kathi and John Horst - Westfield, New York

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon ground mustard
1/3 cup cold water
1/3 cup reduced-sodium teriyaki sauce
1 pound lean ground beef (90% lean)
1 package (16 ounces) frozen asparagus stir-fry vegetable blend
1 medium onion, halved and thinly sliced
2 teaspoons canola oil
2 cups hot cooked rice
2 teaspoons sesame seeds

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine the sugar, cornstarch and mustard. Stir in water and teriyaki sauce until smooth; set aside., In a large nonstick skillet or wok, cook beef until no longer pink; drain and set aside. In the same pan, stir-fry the vegetable blend and onion in oil until crisp-tender., Stir cornstarch mixture and add to the pan. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 1-2 minutes or until thickened. Add beef; heat through. Serve with rice. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.

1 tablespoon sugar

1 cup brown rice, uncooked
1 teaspoon olive oil
1 cup lean ground beef (one reviewer suggests ground turkey to make it even healthier)
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon hot spice blend (try Oriental 5 spice blend if you can find it)
1/2 teaspoon curry powder
1 cup green bell pepper, sliced
1 cup yellow bell pepper, sliced
1 cup carrot, sliced (or strips)
1 cup fresh mushrooms, sliced
3 tablespoons reduced sodium soy sauce

Steps:

  • Cook one cup rice according the package directions.
  • Meanwhile, heat oil in pan over medium heat. Brown the ground beef or ground turkey, whichever you are using.
  • Add spices excluding soy sauce. Add vegetables. Cook until vegetables are soft but still slightly crisp.
  • Add rice and soy sauce. Stir and serve.
  • Spices can be adjusted according to your tastes.

2 garlic cloves, minced
16 ounces coleslaw mix
8 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 pinch ginger (optional)
1 pinch cayenne (optional)
salt and pepper, to taste
2 teaspoons Splenda granular (optional)
1 bunch green onions, cut on the bias (3 ounces after trimming) or 8 green onions (3 ounces after trimming)
