These orange gumdrops will sure please any kid big or small- Can make other colors and flavors for other holidays! Jen's Favorite recipe.

Number Of Ingredients 8

4 package(s) (small envelopes)knox unflavored gelatin
1/2 cup(s) cold water
- juice and peel of 1/2 an orange , if desired to use
3/4 cup(s) water
2 cup(s) granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon(s) orange extract
3 fluid drops each of red and yellow food coloring
- granulated sugar for coating 1-2 cups

Steps:

  • Combine Knox with the 1/2 cup water and the juice from half the orange. Set aside for 6 minutes.
  • Combine 3/4 cup water with sugar. Cut peel from orange 1/2 in large chunks and add that to sugar mixture. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, then remove and discard orange peel (or keep for other baking such as nut bread,cakes or cookies).Add food coloring and extract sugar mixture.
  • Add Knox mixture to syrup, and stir until completely dissolved. Pour into an 11x7-inch pan lined foil and sprayed. Chill for several hours.
  • Turn out chilled set block onto cutting board well coated in sugar. Spread more sugar over the top. Cut into cubes. Place cubes in a baggie filled with sugar, and toss to coat evenly. Chill again up to 2- 3 days. Use a colander to remove excess sugar from gumdrops before serving-(save sugar for baking other goodies)
  • Note: Use other flavors for other holidays with other flavored extracts and colors.

3 envelopes unflavored gelatin
1/2 cup plus 3/4 cup water, divided
1-1/2 cups sugar
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon raspberry extract
Red food coloring
Additional sugar

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, sprinkle gelatin over 1/2 cup water; let stand 5 minutes. In a small saucepan, bring sugar and remaining water to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Add gelatin; reduce heat. Simmer 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat; stir in extract and food coloring as desired., Pour into a greased 8-in. square pan. Refrigerate, covered, 3 hours or until firm., Loosen edges of candy from pan with a knife; turn onto a sugared work surface. Cut into 1-in squares; roll in sugar. Let stand, uncovered, at room temperature until all sides are dry, turning every hour, 3-4 hours. Store between layers of waxed paper in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

½ cup cold water
half an orange
¾ cup water
2 cups sugar
¼ tsp. orange extract
about 3 drops each red and yellow food coloring
more sugar for coating, about 1-2 cups

Steps:

  • Combine gelatin with ½ cup cold water and the juice from half and orange. Set aside for 5-10 minutes.

It's super easy to make your own sweet and chewy gumdrops. Experiment with flavors to create tastes that are uniquely yours.

3 envelopes unflavored gelatin
1/2 cup cold water
3/4 cup water
2 cups sugar
Food color
Flavored extract
Additional sugar

Steps:

  • Lightly spray candy molds or miniature muffin cups with cooking spray.
  • In large bowl, sprinkle gelatin on 1/2 cup cold water; set aside.
  • In small saucepan, heat 3/4 cup water and 2 cups sugar to boiling over high heat. Reduce heat; simmer uncovered 5 minutes until sugar is dissolved and mixture thickens slightly. Remove from heat; carefully add to gelatin mixture, stirring until gelatin is dissolved.
  • Divide mixture into 4 small bowls (or more, depending on how many colors/flavors you want). Tint each bowl with 4 to 5 drops food color, then stir in 1/2 teaspoon extract. Carefully spoon mixture into molds. Refrigerate 8 hours or overnight until set.
  • Carefully remove gumdrops from molds, using a butter knife as needed to coax gumdrops from molds. Roll gumdrops in sugar; place on waxed paper. Let stand at room temperature 24 hours to crystallize slightly. Store tightly covered at room temperature.
