Bunsteads are a tradition in my family, and they will be in yours, too. They're the perfect way to use leftover ham and are an amazing comfort food.

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 T onion, diced
1/4 lb cheddar cheese, cubed
1 c ham, cubed
2 T green pimento stuffed olives, chopped
3 hardboiled eggs, chopped
2 T sweet pickle, chopped
1/3 c mayonnaise
6 hamburger buns

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
  • Dice onion. Cube cheese and ham into approximately half inch pieces. Chop olives, eggs, and pickles.
  • Add all cut up ingredients to a bowl with the mayonnaise. Stir gently to combine.
  • Place buns on a square of tin foil. Spoon in enough of the mixture to make a heaping pile. Cover with the top of the bun, and fold the tin foil all around the sandwich.
  • Cook in a 300 degree oven for 25 minutes. Serve immediately.

2 cups leftover ham, chopped in a food processor
1 cup finely diced celery
1/4 cup finely minced sweet onion
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
2 hard-boiled eggs, diced
1/4 cup hot pickle relish, drained
1/2 cup good quality mayonnaise

Steps:

  • Mix all the ingredients until well blended.
  • Spread on white bread.
  • Paula says that the trick is to use the best ham you can find, preferably an authentic Smithfield ham.
