Granny's Sugar Cookies are melt-in-your-mouth good and super easy to make. Dress these cookies up for any occasion by using colored sugar crystals.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Cream together margarine, sugar, oil, eggs, powdered sugar.
- Sift together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
- Add sifted, dry ingredients to the creamed mixture and mix well.
- Drop by teaspoonful onto a cookie sheet.
- Flatten each cookie with a glass dipped in sugar.
- Bake until slightly browned, about 9 to 11 minutes depending on your oven.
- Let cool on baking sheet for 1 minute before transferring to cooling rack.

- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) .
- Over a large bowl, sift together all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, sugar. Cut in butter and blend with a pastry blender until mixture resembles cornmeal. Stir in lightly beaten egg, cream, and vanilla. Blend well. Dough may be chilled, if desired.
- On a floured surface, roll out dough to 1/8 inch thickness. Sprinkle with sugar; cut into desired shapes. Transfer to ungreased baking sheets.
- Bake for 6 to 8 minutes, or until delicately brown.

- Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cream shortening, sugar, and vanilla. Add eggs and mix well. Add milk. Beat in dry ingredients until dough is well blended. Refrigerate 1 hour or until mixture is cold. Roll out on floured surface and cut into shapes. Place on greased cookie sheets about 1" apart. Bake for 7 to 10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Remove from cookie sheets and cool on wire rack. Note: If dough becomes dry, gradually mix in more shortening to moisten dough.

- In a large bowl, cream the sugar, butter, vanilla and salt. Add eggs and mix well. Combine the flour, baking powder and baking soda; add to creamed mixture. - In a large bowl, cream the brown sugar, white sugar, eggs, and the shortening. Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Alternate adding the buttermilk with the dry ingredients.
- Roll dough into walnut sized balls and roll the balls in colored sugar if desired. Place them 2 inches apart on an unprepared cookie sheet. Bake for 10 to 13 minutes in the preheated oven. Remove to cool on wire racks.

- Beat butter and sugar with an electric mixer in a large bowl until smooth. Add first egg while continuing to beat, incorporating the egg fully before adding the second and beating fully into the mixture. Beat vanilla extract and almond extract into the mixture with the third egg.
- Stir flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt together in a separate bowl; add to the wet mixture and beat just until the wet and dry combine into a cookie dough. Shape dough into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate until chilled, at least 3 hours.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Roll dough out onto a flour-dusted surface and cut with cookie cutters. Arrange cut cookies onto baking sheets.

GRANDMA MCCARVER'S SUGAR COOKIES
This recipe has been in our family for years. It was my Mother's favorite cookie at Christmas or any time of the year!

- 1. In medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder and baking soda; set aside. In large bowl, Cream shortening, sugar and vanilla. Add eggs and mix well. Add milk. Beat in dry ingredients until dough is well blended. Refrigerate 1 hour or overnight.
- 2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Lightly grease or spray cookie sheets with cooking spray. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface and cut into shapes. If the dough becomes dry, just knead in shortening a teaspoon at a time until it is soft enough to handle. Place on cookie sheets about 1" apart. Sprinkle cookies with sugar, colored sugar or colored sprinkles. Bake for 7-10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Remove from cookie sheets and cool on wire rack.
- 3. Variation: Omit sprinkling cookies with sugar before baking. Melt a (12 ounce) package of Hershey's Premier white chips and 2 tablespoons of shortening. Frost cookies with glaze and decorate with sprinkles. Let the glaze harden before storing.
