1/2 cup salt
2 tablespoons paprika
2 tablespoons red peppers
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 tablespoon ground celery seed

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, mix together all ingredients.
  • Store in a tightly sealed jar.

your favorite barbecue rub (KC Gates & Sons Rub recipe 16732)
barbecue sauce (KC Gates & Sons BBQ Sauce recipe 16745)
1/4 cup pickle juice
1/4 cup water

Steps:

  • The rib seasoning is a dry rub that should be applied 15 minutes before grilling.
  • Mix the pickle juice with the water.
  • During grilling, keep the ribs moist with this mixture.
  • The barbecue sauce, warmed up in a saucepan, is an ideal accompaniment to the finished ribs.

Kansas City is famous for their BBQ and the Smokehouse Restaurant is a popular place to go. My sister-in-law has a recipe for beans that she calls "Smokehouse Beans" that taste just like the restaurant beans. I make them for large gatherings or half the recipe for the family. Enjoy!

4 slices bacon
2 (40 ounce) cans pork and beans
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon dried onion flakes
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
1 teaspoon liquid smoke
1 cup barbecue sauce
1/4 cup molasses

Steps:

  • In frying pan, cook bacon to remove the grease, until tender, not crisp.
  • In large roasting pan or crock pot combine beans with their liquid, bacon, and the rest of the ingredients.
  • For roasting pan, bake uncovered in oven at 325 for 60 - 70 minutes. For crockpot, cook on low for 6 to 8 hours.

1 cup sugar
1/4 cup salt
2 tablespoons celery seeds
2 tablespoons ground cumin
2 tablespoons ground red pepper
2 tablespoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon chili powder
2 quarts ketchup
2 cups apple cider vinegar
1 1/2 teaspoons liquid smoke
1 teaspoon lemon juice

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, mix together sugar, salt, celery seed, cumin, red pepper, garlic powder, and chili powder.
  • Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine remaining ingredients.
  • Add dry ingredients, and mix well.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature.
  • Sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 weeks or in freezer for up to 6 months.
