I never liked French toast, but these sticks are the best. No need to have syrup or anything, they are good as-is.

2 large eggs
½ cup powdered sugar
¼ cup milk
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 teaspoon brown sugar
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
6 slices white bread, cut into thirds
nonstick cooking spray

Steps:

  • Mix eggs, powdered sugar, milk, maple syrup, brown sugar, and cinnamon together in a bowl with a fork until well blended. Dip each bread stick into the egg mixture.
  • Coat a skillet with nonstick spray and heat over medium heat. Place sticks in the hot skillet and cook until brown, 2 to 3 minutes; turn over and cook until browned on other side, 2 to 3 minutes more. Repeat with the second batch.

6 slices day-old Texas toast
4 large eggs
1 cup 2% milk
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup crushed cornflakes, optional
Confectioners' sugar, optional
Maple syrup

Steps:

  • Cut each piece of bread into thirds; place in an ungreased 13x9-in. dish. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla and cinnamon. Pour over bread; soak for 2 minutes, turning once. If desired, coat bread with cornflake crumbs on all sides. , Place in a greased 15x10x1-in. baking pan. Freeze until firm, about 45 minutes. Transfer to an airtight freezer container and store in the freezer., To use frozen French toast sticks: Place desired number on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 425° for 8 minutes. Turn; bake 10-12 minutes longer or until golden brown. Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar if desired. Serve with syrup.

Number Of Ingredients 11

6 large eggs
1/2 cup half-and-half
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 1/2 cups panko
1 1/2 cups sweetened corn and oat cereal (such as Cap'n Crunch), crushed into fine crumbs
2 tablespoons salted butter, melted
12 slices Texas toast or other thick bread slices, each cut into 3 strips
Confectioners' sugar, for serving
Warm maple syrup, for serving

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 425˚ F. Crack the eggs into a pie plate. Add the half-and-half, vanilla, 1/4 cup granulated sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Whisk lightly until combined; set aside.
  • In a separate pie plate, stir together the panko, crushed cereal and remaining 1/4 cup granulated sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Use a fork to stir in the melted butter so that the crumbs are slightly moist.
  • One by one, quickly dunk the bread strips in the egg mixture, turning to coat. Then lay them in the dish with the crumb mixture, turning to coat; sprinkle and press the crumbs so they totally cover the bread. Place the bread strips on a rack set on a baking sheet.
  • Bake the French toast sticks until golden around the edges and the crumbs are crisp, 15 to 20 minutes. Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar and serve with maple syrup.

1 cup milk
2 large eggs
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 cups brioche, french or sandwich bread, cut into 2 inch cubes
1 tablespoon butter or oil
16 strawberries, stems removed
2 bananas, sliced into 1/2 inch coins
Special equipment:
8 wooden skewers

Steps:

  • In a bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, honey and cinnamon.
  • Dip the bread cubes in the milk mixture to coat each side.
  • Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat and cook the bread for 1 1/2 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
  • Skewer the french toast cubes, strawberries and bananas and serve with maple syrup for dipping.
