10 to 11 cups sliced peeled tart apples
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, divided
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup quick-cooking oats
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
Vanilla ice cream, optional

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°. Place apples in a large bowl. Combine sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon; sprinkle over apples and toss to coat. Transfer to a greased 13x9-in. baking dish. Combine flour, brown sugar, oats, baking powder, nutmeg and remaining cinnamon; cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle over apples. Bake until apples are tender, 50-60 minutes. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, if desired.

8 medium apples, peeled cored and sliced
1 3/4 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
2 cups sugar, divided
1 cup flour, plus
2 tablespoons flour, divided
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Butter a 2 quart rectangular baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, blend apples with 3/4 tsp cinnamon, 1 cup sugar, and 2 TBS flour.
  • Place apples in the baking dish and dot with butter.
  • In a medium bowl, place remaining sugar and flour, baking powder, remaining 1 tsp cinnamon, and salt.
  • Stir in egg until mixture is crumbly.
  • Sprinkle topping over apples and bake 30 minutes, or until apple mixture is bubbly and browned.
