Steps:
- Squeeze the juice (or use a hand juicer) from the lemon into a quart sized mason jar, a shaker, or anything else you can fill and cover tightly. It just needs to be at least 16 oz. Toss one half of the lemon in with the juice.
- Add the sugar
- Fill the jar/cup/shaker with 1 1/2- 2 cups of ice. Basically, you just want to fill it up to the top.
- Add enough water to cover the ice
- Cover and shake briskly, until the sugar is mostly dissolved. It will actually turn into this wonderful, sweet "sludge" at the bottom of the cup. Drink straight from your shaker or pour into a glass. Just make sure you get all the sweet goodness out of the cup!
- For a nice extra touch, serve in glasses with a sugared rim!

STATE FAIR LEMONADE
I'm very excited to be showing you how to make real, authentic, vintage lemonade--the kind you might enjoy on a hot summer day at one of those stands at the state fair. Most of us make lemonade just out of lemon juice, but as you may know, the oils in the lemon peel contain a tremendous amount of flavor, and once you drink this, you won't want to go back to drinking it how you used to.

Steps:
- Wash lemons and peel off all the zest using a vegetable peeler. Set peeled lemons aside. Add the lemon zest to a bowl and cover with sugar. Toss to combine. Cover and let sit for a minimum of 2 hours, or up to overnight.
- Bring water to a boil in a pot over high heat; turn off heat and pour in the lemon-sugar mixture. Stir and let sit until the sugar is completely dissolved, about 5 minutes.
- Pour through a mesh strainer back into the same bowl and discard the zest. Let cool to room temperature, 20 to 30 minutes.
- Cut the lemons in half and squeeze into the bowl. Pour lemonade into a serving pitcher. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill thoroughly before serving over ice, at least 2 hours.

LEMON SHAKE-UP
A quick and easy lemon drink that is often sold at street festivals and the like. I like to make this at home for my daughter- takes up less space than a pitcher of lemonade in the refrigerator, and only a few minutes to make.

Steps:
- Place water in a covered shaker and squeeze lemon into it until it is completely juiced (you may like to cut the lemon pieces into quarters to do this as they are easier to handle, or use a reamer instead).
- Pour the sugar into the shaker and add just a few ice cubes to agitate but do not overfill your shaker.
- Affix the lid or cap and shake mixture until the sugar completely dissolves.
- Pour lemon shake-up into a large serving glass (about a 24 oz size or larger) and add more ice to fill the glass as needed.
- Drink up and be prepared to make more!

VODKA LEMONADE
A simple vodka lemonade that takes some elbow grease! I usually make this at a party with friends so I can pass the jar around because I usually get tired of shaking and my hands get cold. I usually put it into a better container for serving when I am done shaking, like the one in the picture.
