CHOCOLATE RIVER BARS

1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 (6 ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 13-by-9-inch baking dish.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat butter with an electric mixer until softened. Add brown sugar and sugar and beat until fluffy.
  • Add egg and vanilla. Beat well.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and salt. With mixer on low speed, gradually add flour mixture, beating until mixed well.
  • Spread batter in greased pan. Sprinkle chocolate pieces evenly over the batter.
  • Place in oven for approximately two minutes (or just until chocolate pieces soften). Remove pan from oven. With a table knife, swirl the chocolate pieces.
  • Return the pan to the oven. Bake 12-15 minutes or until golden. Cool in pan on a cooling rack. Cut into bars and serve.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 bottle dry red wine
2 pods star anise
1 stick cinnamon, plus 1 stick for grating, for garnish
5 cloves
1/2 cup light brown sugar
Pinch salt
Two 10-ounce bags frozen mixed berries, thawed
1 quart vanilla frozen yogurt

Steps:

  • Combine the red wine, star anise, cinnamon stick, cloves, brown sugar and salt in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 15 minutes. Strain into a medium bowl. Add the berries and stir to combine. Cover and refrigerate until chilled, 2 hours.
  • To serve, spoon some of the berries and mulled wine into a coupe glass. Top with a scoop of frozen yogurt and garnish with some freshly grated cinnamon.

1 pt strawberries, fresh, washed, split in half
1 Tbsp orange flavored liqueur ( triple sec will work) or use orange extract
3/4 c heavy cream
1 dark chocolate bar( lindt 85%cocoa bar)
1 tsp sugar
1 pinch salt
whipped topping ( optional)

Steps:

  • 1. Wash and split berries, place in bowl and add orange liqueur or extract, cover with plastic wrap and place in fridge for at least 30 minutes.
  • 2. In a medium sauce pan add heavy cream and over medium heat bring to a slow boil and let reduce down some, break chocolate bar into pieces and add to cream,add salt and sugar, stir until chocolate is melted. Remove from heat and let cool. Will thicken some as it cools.
  • 3. With a slotted spoon place berries in a glass serving bowl( I used my martini glasses) spoon chocolate over and top with whipped cream( store bought is ok, but I made mine with heavy cream and confectioners sugar to sweeten)

1/3 cup dry Italian red wine
3 tablespoons sugar
A few grinds black pepper
1/2 pint strawberries, sliced
1/2 pint blackberries
1 store bought angel food cake
Whipped cream, canister
Finely chopped fresh mint leaves or orange zest, for garnish

Steps:

  • Combine wine, sugar, and pepper in a medium bowl. Add berries and soak 20 minutes. Cut the cake into thick slices. Serve wedges doused with wine soaked berries then garnish with whipped cream and fresh mint or orange zest.
