This recipe is posted in response to a request. It's from the Marlboro Country Cookbook. I haven't tried it yet. Note to World Tour participants. This is a typical ranch/chuckwagon/cowboy type recipe - common in the Southwestern region of the U.S.

1/4 lb sliced smoked bacon
1 onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 (28 ounce) cans pork and beans
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed (or more to taste)
1/4 cup molasses
1 teaspoon steak sauce
1/2 lb soft processed cheese, cubed (like Velveeta)

Steps:

  • Fry bacon in large skillet.
  • Pour off fat, Return 3 tbsp fat to skillet.
  • Fry onion and garlic in fat until tender.
  • Add pork and beans, brown sugar to taste, molasses and steak sauce; stir to mix.
  • Simmer 30- 45 minutes.
  • Crumble bacon; add cheese to beans just before serving.

1/4 c molasses
1 Tbsp steak sauce
1/2 soft process cheese, cubed

Steps:

  • 1. Fry bacon in large skillet.Pour off fat .Return 4 Tbsp to skillet
  • 2. Fry onion and garlic until tender.Add pork and beans,brown sugar ,Molasses and steak sauce stir to mix .
  • 3. Simmer 30 to 40 minutes.Crumble bacon, and cheese on top before serving.Makes 8 to 10 servings

The beans are yummy, with steak sauce and velveeta adding a surprisingly good flavor so that you aren't eating the same old booring baked beans!

1/4 lb smoked bacon, sliced
1 onion, chopped
2 clove minced garlic
2 28 oz cans pork and beans
1 Tbsp steak sauce
1/4-1/2 c packed brown sugar
1/4 c molasses
1/2 lb velveeta, cubed

Steps:

  • 1. Fry bacon, pour off all but 3-4 T fat. Fry onion and garlic until tender, add beans, sugar to taste, molasses and steak sauce and mix. Simmer 30-35 min. Crumble bacon and add with cheese before serving.
  • 2. If taking this mix sugar, molasses and steak sauce for easy traveling. Also, soft cheese melts faster.
