So easy, so fast, and so tasty. You'll do better with this recipe using real cheese, not cheese food product. From the Wisconsin Dutch chapter of the United States Regional Cookbook, Culinary Arts Institute of Chicago, 1947.

12 hot dogs
12 slices bacon
1/2 lb American cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat broiler.
  • Cut a lengthwise slit in each hot dog.
  • Cut a strip of cheese the length of the slit about 1/4" thick; fill the slit with cheese and wrap a slice of bacon around the hot dog, securing the ends with a toothpick.
  • Broil slowly, turning often, until the bacon and hot dogs are cooked through and browned.

1 1/2 cups macaroni, Broken
3/4 cup milk, Evaporated
1 1/4 teaspoons dry mustard
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, Md, Grated
1 1/2 lbs frankfurters, Deli-Style

Steps:

  • Cook the macaroni in boiling salted water until tender.
  • Drain and rinse in hot water.
  • Combine the milk, mustard, salt, pepper and 2 cups of the cheddar cheese in the top of a double boiler and cook until the cheddar is melted and sauce is smooth, stirring frequently.
  • Add the macaroni and blend well.
  • Split the frankfurters lengthwise, without separating them, and fill with the macaroni mixture.
  • Sprinkle with the remaining cheddar and bake in a hot oven (400 degrees F.) for 15 minutes.
  • Serve hot.

This is a delicious casserole recipe I got from an old Edna Staebler cookbook a long time ago. I could eat the whole thing myself, although it is supposed to serve 3. You can double it for more people with no problem and they will all leave the table smacking their lips!

1/4 lb noodles, cooked and drained
3/4 cup grated cheese
1 tablespoon flour
1 pinch salt
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons melted butter
1/2 lb frankfurter, sliced
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons Miracle Whip
1 teaspoon mustard

Steps:

  • Combine cheese, flour, and salt.
  • Stir this mixture, along with the milk and butter into the noodles.
  • Pour the noodle mixture into a buttered shallow pan.
  • Combine the sliced frankfurters with the brown sugar, miracle whip and mustard.
  • Spoon evenly over top of the noodles.
  • Bake at 375*F for 20 minutes.
  • Recipe can be doubled very successfully.

1 (16 ounce) package beef frankfurters
8 slices processed American cheese
8 slices bread
8 teaspoons butter

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Take 1 slice of bread and spread 1 teaspoon of butter on one side. Turn the bread over and place a slice of cheese on the bread. Place a frankfurter diagonally on the cheese. Fold bread corner to corner around the frankfurter. Insert a toothpick to hold together. Repeat steps for the remaining frankfurters.
  • Bake in a preheated oven for 20 to 30 minutes or until golden brown.

Steps:

  • 1. Cut a gash in the side of each frankfurter. Spread prepared mustard inside; add a strip of cheese and push the frankfurter back in shape. Wrap a strip of bacon around it. Fasten with a toothpick. Grill until cheese melts and bacon is crisp.
  • 2. Cut gashes in the frankfurters and spread the inside with garlic butter to which you have added chopped chives and parsley. Wrap with bacon strips and grill.
  • 3. Mash blue cheese with a little grated onion and blend in chopped chives and parsley. Gash the frankfurters and stuff them with this mixture. Wrap with bacon strips and grill.
  • 4. Cut frankfurters in 1-inch pieces. Alternate these on skewers with tiny whole tomatoes and strips of green pepper. Grill. Serve with a good hot Mexican chili.
