My mom gave me a taste of this recipe and after never having previously liked Brussels sprouts, I was hooked and begged her for the recipe!

1 ½ pounds Brussels sprouts, trimmed
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
¼ cup balsamic vinegar
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
½ teaspoon garlic powder

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add Brussels sprouts and cook until slightly tender, about 2 minutes. Drain and immediately immerse in ice water for several minutes to stop the cooking process. Drain.
  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat; cook and stir onion and garlic in the hot oil until onion is just tender, 5 to 10 minutes. Add Brussels sprouts; cook and stir until sprouts are tender, 8 to 10 minutes.
  • Mix balsamic vinegar, butter, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder into Brussels sprouts mixture; toss to coat.

Steps:

  • Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a small skillet over medium heat; add 2 chopped garlic cloves and 1/2 teaspoon each cumin seeds and kosher salt and cook 2 minutes. Stir in 1 tablespoon brown sugar, the juice of 1/2 lemon and a pinch of red pepper flakes. Toss with 1 1/4 pounds halved Brussels sprouts on a baking sheet. Roast at 450 degrees F until tender, 18 to 24 minutes. Toss with torn cilantro.

3 pints Brussels sprouts
Salt to taste
4 tablespoons butter
1 cup finely chopped onions
1 teaspoon ground cumin
Freshly ground pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Trim off the ends of the sprouts and make a small gash in the bottom of each. Add to a saucepan with water to cover and salt.
  • Bring to a boil and simmer to the desired degree of doneness, about 10 minutes (longer if necessary). Drain.
  • Heat the butter in a saucepan. Add the onions and cook until wilted. Add the sprouts, cumin, salt and pepper, and cover. Simmer for 5 minutes, shaking the pan on occasion.
