This is my husbands favorite birthday dessert. A friend gave my mother this recipe years ago. I've known it as Texas Dessert, Better Than Sex, As Good As Robert Redford plus a few more that cannot be posted. Great for Valentines Day too! For extra richness, use French Vanilla Cool Whip.

1 cup flour
1 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup oleo or 1/2 cup butter
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
1 cup Cool Whip
1 cup powdered sugar
1 (3 1/2 ounce) package Jello Instant Vanilla Pudding Mix, made with
1 3/4 cups milk
1 (3 1/2 ounce) package jello instant chocolate pudding mix, made with
1 3/4 cups milk
4 cups Cool Whip
hershey chocolate bar
chopped nuts (optional)

Steps:

  • Mix together in processor the flour, chopped pecans and butter.
  • Spread into 9x13 pan and bake 15 minutes at 350º.
  • Let cool completely.
  • In medium bowl mix together cream cheese, powdered suar and cool whip.
  • Mix well; spread over cool crust.
  • Prepare Vanilla Pudding using only 1-3/4 cup milk.
  • Spread over cream cheese layer.
  • Prepare Chocolate Pudding using only 1-3/4 cup milk.
  • Spread over Vanilla Pudding layer.
  • Top with remaining cool whip.
  • Grate Hersheys Chocolate Bar over the top (I like to mix the Dark Chocolate& Milk Chocolate).
  • Sprinkle with Chopped Pecans if desired.
  • Cover.
  • Chill overnight.

1 (18.25 ounce) package devil's food cake mix
½ (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
6 ounces caramel ice cream topping
3 (1.4 ounce) bars chocolate covered toffee, chopped
1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed

Steps:

  • Bake cake according to package directions for a 9x13 inch pan; cool on wire rack for 5 minutes. Make slits across the top of the cake, making sure not to go through to the bottom.
  • In a saucepan over low heat, combine sweetened condensed milk and caramel topping, stirring until smooth and blended. Slowly pour the warm topping mixture over the top of the warm cake, letting it sink into the slits; then sprinkle the crushed chocolate toffee bars liberally across the entire cake while still warm. (Hint: I crush my candy bars into small chunks as opposed to crumbs - I like to have pieces I can chew on!)
  • Let cake cool completely, then top with whipped topping. Decorate the top of the cake with some more chocolate toffee bar chunks and swirls of caramel topping. Refrigerate and serve right from the pan!

There are so many versions, but this one is more of a pudding than a cake. Repeatedly requested by family & friends, it'll cause discussion as to whether eating this or the namesake is more fun! This recipe is easily diabetic converted with sugar free puddings and omission of chocolate bar.

1 cup flour
1 cup crushed pecans
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 (4 ounce) box instant chocolate pudding mix
1 (4 ounce) box instant butterscotch pudding mix
4 cups cold milk
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 (8 ounce) container Cool Whip, thawed
2 tablespoons milk
1/4 cup chopped pecans
1 chocolate bar, shavings

Steps:

  • Preheat oven 350.
  • Mix flour, pecans, and butter well.
  • Press flour mixture into bottom of 13X9 pan. (It helps to wet hands repeatedly during this process).
  • Bake flour mixture for 10 minutes. Let cool.
  • Mix cream cheese, cool whip, and 2 T milk to smooth. Set aside.
  • Mix chocolate pudding with 2 C cold milk. Set aside.
  • Mix butterscotch pudding with 2 C cold milk.
  • Layer butterscotch pudding, 1/2 cream cheese mixture, and chocolate pudding on top of cooled flour/pecan crust.
  • Top with remaining 1/2 cream cheese mixture.
  • Last, add chopped pecans and chocolate bar shavings.
  • Refrigerate for 2 hours.
  • Cut into squares to serve.
