EASY BEER BREAD MIX

Easy Beer Bread Mix image

I combine all the dry ingredients and put them in quart canning jars or quart size ziploc bags and give as gifts. All the recipient needs to add is the can of beer and butter over the top of the loaf. You know you have a winner when people ask for the recipe!

FULL-FLAVOR BEER BREAD

Full-Flavor Beer Bread image

A chewy, filling beer bread that pairs great with homemade soups. And very simple to make (mix everything. bake it. that's it). I've included a couple tips for a slightly sweeter bread, or a slightly herb-flavored bread; whichever compliments the beer you choose. Beer bread can also make a great (and Cheap!) holiday gift! Especially handy for coworker gifts (see gift suggestion in the directions).

Time 55m

Yield 1 Loaf, 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 1/2 cups self rising flour
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup brown sugar (Sweet option -- add'l 1/3 C. Brown Sugar)
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 (12 ounce) bottle beer
1/4 cup butter (melted)
1/2 teaspoon onion powder (Herb option)
3/4 teaspoon italian seasoning (Herb option)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees and lightly grease bread pans.
  • Mix all dry ingredients. (For dark or sweeter beers [ex: a stout, or cherry wheat beer] add extra Brown Sugar. For a mid-range or hoppy beer [ex: a Yuengling, or an IPA] add Onion Power and Italian Seasoning).
  • Add beer to dry ingredients and mix until moistened through. (Dough will be sticky. Do not try to kneed it like a traditional bread dough).
  • Transfer dough to bread pan and top with melted butter.
  • Bake 45-60 minutes (depending on oven); until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Holiday Gift Suggestion: Layer each dry ingredient in a Mason Jar. Add decorative fabric over the lid/under the jar ring. The gift tag includes baking directions, " -- Just add your favorite beer!" (or make a gift basket that includes an interesting beer to go in it).

DILL BEER BREAD (GIFT IN A JAR)

Dill Beer Bread (Gift in a Jar) image

My favorite Beer Bread variation, so good with soups. You really don't want to skip the melted butter. This recipe comes from The Perfect Mix by Diane Phillips, so is written as a Gift in a Jar - but of course, you could just mix it up and bake it for yourself, too! :) If you don't have self rising flour (like me!), here's a substitute: Recipe #5247. Time is for baking the bread.

  • To make mix: Combine first 3 ingredients and place in an airtight container.
