4 (12 ounce) bottles beer
1 tablespoon seafood seasoning (such as Old Bay®)
1 teaspoon salt
1 lemon, halved crosswise
1 ½ pounds fresh shrimp, with shells and tails on

Steps:

  • Combine beer, seafood seasoning, and salt in a large saucepan or stockpot over medium-high heat. Squeeze juice from both lemon halves into the beer mixture and add both rinds to the beer. Stir and bring to a boil. Cover the pot and boil for 10 minutes.
  • Add shrimp to boiling liquid, cover again with the lid, and turn off the heat. Transfer shrimp to serving bowls when they are bright pink on the outside and the meat is opaque, about 3 minutes.

This was my stepfather's crowd-pleasing recipe. It's simple to make, and the longer the shrimp sit, the better! You can prepare the shrimp a day ahead, refrigerate, and reheat before serving. The leftover liquid can be frozen and used to make great gumbo.

1 pound butter
1 large onion, chopped
1 tablespoon salt
5 pounds large shrimp in shell (21 to 25 per lb), peeled and deveined
3 (12 fluid ounce) bottles beer

Steps:

  • Melt the butter in a large pot over medium-high heat. Stir in the onion, and cook until transparent, about 5 minutes. Mix in the salt and shrimp. Pour the beer over the shrimp, and simmer just until the shrimp turn pink. Turn off the heat, and allow the shrimp to sit at least 1/2 hour. Serve while still warm, or refrigerate and reheat before serving.

1 (12 ounce) bottle beer (not dark or amber)
1 tablespoon hot red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon whole black peppercorn
2 bay leaves
2 lbs raw shrimp (cleaned, tails left on)
1/2 cup butter
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
bottled seafood cocktail sauce
lemon wedge

Steps:

  • Combine the beer, pepper flakes, peppercorns and bay leaves in a large heavy saucepan. Bring to a boil, then boil for 2 minutes. Add the shrimp. Cover and cook until the shrimp are cooked through, about 5 minutes. Drain.
  • Melt the butter. Stir in the lemon juice, black pepper and cayenne pepper.
  • Serve the shrimp with the butter mixture, cocktail sauce and lemon wedges.

This recipe is simple to make. I have made shrimp this way for years. It's kinda like having a shrimp cocktail. Shrimp is best when chilled. Great for parties, with meals as a appetizer or just alone. NOTE: Use seasonings to your taste. I usually add 1 packet of Splenda (or of choice) to the cocktail sauce instead of regular sugar.

1 lb raw shrimp (frozen or fresh)
24 fluid ounces Budweiser beer, your choice
1 chicken bouillon cube
1 teaspoon sea salt
2 teaspoons Old Bay Seasoning
1 teaspoon lemon pepper
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon all purpose Greek seasoning (optional)
ice
seafood cocktail sauce
1 cup ketchup
1/2 teaspoon horseradish
1/2-1 teaspoon sugar, to your taste

Steps:

  • For cocktail sauce, combine ketchup, horseradish and sugar in a small bowl. Chill until needed.
  • In a large sauce pot add shrimp,beer, chicken bouillon cube,sea salt,old bay seasoning,lemon pepper, black pepper and Greek seasoning.
  • Stir to combine flavors.
  • Bring to a boil and boil only until shrimp turns light pink about 5 minutes.
  • Drain and add ice to chill shrimp.

2 (12 ounce) cans light beer
2 tablespoons crab boil seasoning

Steps:

  • In a large pot, bring beer to a boil with seasoning.
  • Stir in shrimp and cover.
  • Return to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes.

3 pounds shell-on medium shrimp
4 (12 ounce) cans pilsner-style beer
3 tablespoons paprika
1 ⅛ cups white vinegar
2 tablespoons seafood seasoning (such as Old Bay®)
2 tablespoons celery seed
3 teaspoons celery salt
1 ½ teaspoons ground black pepper
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper

Steps:

  • Rinse shrimp under cold running water and set in a strainer to drain.
  • Meanwhile, add beer, paprika, vinegar, seafood seasoning, celery seed, celery salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper to a large pot over high heat. Bring to a boil and add shrimp. Immediately turn off the heat and let cool on the stovetop for about 1 hour. Cover the pot and transfer to the top shelf of the refrigerator, placing it on top of a thick towel. Let shrimp soak for 12 to 24 hours.
  • Drain shrimp in a strainer and discard remaining marinating liquid.

5 lbs 31-40 count Shrimp
1 pkg Zatarain's Crab Boil
1/2 bottle liquid Zatarain's Crab Boil (more if wanted)
5 Tbs. kosher salt (adjust as needed)
5 Tbs. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 onion, quartered
1 bell pepper, quartered
1 large lemon, sliced
2 6 packs of ice cold Red Stripe beer (or more!)
1 recipe Nancy's Cocktail sauce (see My Recipies)
1 recipe Nancy's Remoulade Sauce (see My Recipies)

Steps:

  • In a very large stock pot, add 1/2 gallon of water and the salt--after salt dissolves taste and adjust to desired salinity. Add Zatarain's package and liquid, olive oil, onion, bell pepper lemon, and 3-4 bottles of beer (have enough liquid to cover the shrimp). Bring to a rolling boil and cook until the liquid is dark (10 minutes or as long as it takes to drink a Red Stripe). Add Shrimp and let the pot return to a boil. If you need more liquid, add another beer. Boil for 5 minutes, turn heat off, and allow to sit for 10 minutes (or as long as it takes to drink a Red Stripe). Remove shrimp with a slotted spoon to a large bowl. To cool down to eat, pour two bottles of Red Stripe over and let cool for 5 minutes. Serve immediately. Serves:

3 lbs fresh shrimp or 3 lbs thawed frozen shrimp
6 ounces prepared horseradish mustard
3 tablespoons red peppers
3 tablespoons black pepper
2 tablespoons paprika
1 tablespoon garlic salt or 1 garlic clove, minced
5 crushed bay leaves
1/2 cup salt
12 ounces beer or 12 ounces ale
1 cup vinegar

Steps:

  • Put all in a large pot or kettle.
  • Cover and bring to a boil.
  • Turn shrimp over several times while cooking.
  • Boil 15-20 minutes or until the tails turn pink.
  • It is better to under cook shrimp then to.
  • over cook.
  • Note : the red pepper is the hot type, not the sweat.

2 tablespoons dry crab boil
2 pounds large shrimp

Steps:

  • Bring beer with dry crab boil to a boil in a large pot. Add shrimp to boiling beer and place a cover on the pot. Bring the beer again to a boil, reduce heat to medium-low, and cook at a simmer for 5 minutes. Remove pot from heat and leave shrimp steeping in the beer another 2 to 3 minutes; drain. I found this recipe on the internet from another site and adapted it to what worked for me. It's now my favorite recipe to make at home and for friends/family because it is so good and super easy. The original called for peeled shrimp, but I really like to cook it with the shells on to maintain the juice of the shrimp without drying it out and also there's just something about sitting at a table and peeling shrimp together...perfect for a casual evening with some beer to go down with it. The recipe is very forgiving so you can adjust ingredients to meet your tastes and needs. Even though it's cooked with butter, I still serve butter...what can I say...I'm from the south and everythings better with butter. There's nevery any left with this recipe.

1/2 cup butter
1 -2 chopped onion
2 lbs shrimp, with shells on (deveined is a personal preferrence)
3 -4 bottles of dark ale beer (although any beer can be used)
Old Bay Seasoning

Steps:

  • Melt butter in a saucepan on medium high and add chopped onion.
  • Saute onion until soft(around 2-5 minutes).
  • Add shrimp and pour in enough beer to cover shrimp (usually 3-4 bottles is enough) and simmer until shrimp turns pink and is cooked through.
  • Note: I liked to just bring the pot to the table to serve and provide Old Bay Seasoning for people to add to the shrimp on their plate. The Old Bay can also be added to the shrimp when cooking as well.
