Open, sesame! This is a family favorite. For a variation, you can also use bone-in chicken pieces, but be sure to increase the cooking time in this case. Tip: To toast sesame seeds, place in a baking dish in a heated oven for about 5 to 10 minutes, watching carefully not to burn.

2 tablespoons soy sauce
¼ cup toasted sesame seeds
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
¼ teaspoon salt
1 pinch ground black pepper
4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
2 tablespoons butter, melted

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Place soy sauce in a 9x13 inch baking dish. On a piece of wax paper, mix together the sesame seeds, flour, salt and pepper. Dip the chicken pieces in the soy sauce to coat, then dredge in the sesame seed mixture. Arrange in baking dish in a single layer, then drizzle with melted butter.
  • Bake at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) for approximately 40 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through and tender and juices run clear. Baste with drippings once during cooking time. Garnish with extra sesame seeds if desired, and serve.

1 (3 pound) bag chicken wings, tips removed
1 cup low-sugar orange marmalade
4 teaspoons Chinese five-spice powder
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon avocado oil
1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
1 tablespoon sambal oelek, or to taste
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 ½ teaspoons salt
½ teaspoon ground white pepper
1 tablespoon snipped fresh chives
1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Place an oven rack in the center of the oven and another oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Line a sheet pan with aluminum foil.
  • Blot chicken wing pieces with a paper towel and place in a gallon-sized resealable bag.
  • Combine orange marmalade, five-spice powder, sesame oil, avocado oil, ginger, sambal oelek, garlic, salt, and white pepper in a blender; blend until smooth. Add marinade to chicken wings in the bag, squeeze out all the air, and seal. Squish chicken wings around in the sealed bag until well coated with marinade.
  • Place coated chicken wings in a single layer on the prepared sheet pan.
  • Bake in the preheated oven on the center rack for 30 minutes. Flip and bake an additional 30 minutes. Remove from the oven.
  • Preheat the oven's broiler. Broil chicken wings until they sizzle and turn a deep brown color, watching carefully so they don't burn, 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from the oven. Sprinkle with chives and sesame seeds.

1/2 cup orange juice
1 tablespoon reduced-sodium soy sauce
2 boneless skinless chicken breast halves (4 ounces each)
2 tablespoons orange marmalade

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine orange juice and soy sauce. Pour 1/4 cup marinade into a large resealable plastic bag; add the chicken. Seal bag and turn to coat; refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Cover and refrigerate remaining marinade., Drain and discard marinade. Place chicken and reserved marinade in an 8-in. square baking dish coated with cooking spray. Spoon marmalade over chicken. 3 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves, nearly thawed
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons orange marmalade
1 tablespoon sweet rice cooking wine (aji mirin), or white wine
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 cup flour
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
3 tablespoons butter, melted
Rice, for serving

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
  • Cut the chicken breasts into 1-inch cubes (easiest when not completely thawed). In a medium bowl, mix together the soy sauce, orange marmalade, wine, and crushed red pepper flakes. Toss in the chicken cubes and marinate for at least 10 minutes and up to 8 hours in the refrigerator.
  • In another bowl or plastic bag, mix together the flour and sesame seeds. Drain the chicken cubes and blot any excess liquid, and then toss in the flour to coat lightly. Spread the chicken cubes on the prepared baking sheet and drizzle with the melted butter. Bake until the chicken is crispy but not dry, about 20 minutes, turning the cubes halfway through. Serve with rice.

This is from an old New York Times Natural Foods cookbook. It was my first husband's favorite meal. Don't have the husband anymore, but I kept the recipe! I usually double or triple the amount of sesame seeds.

1 egg, lightly beaten
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1 tablespoon baking soda
1 tablespoon salt
2 tablespoons sweet paprika
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
1 frying chicken, cut up (can also use thighs, breasts, or whatever you like best)
1/2 cup melted butter

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350�°F.
  • Mix egg and milk together.
  • Combine flour, baking soda, salt, paprika, and sesame seeds in a paper bag (recipe was written before "Ziploc" bags -- you can use either).
  • Dip chicken pieces in egg mixture, then shake in bag.
  • Place pieces skin side up on a baking sheet.
  • Drizzle melted butter over chicken pieces.
  • Bake about 1 hour, until done.

2 teaspoons sesame oil
1/4 cup sherry wine
3/4 cup sour cream
1 cup crushed cracker, sesame or saltine

Steps:

  • If using plain Saltine crackers, add 2 tsp.
  • sesame seeds to the crumbs.
  • Preheat oven to 400.
  • Rinse chicken and pat dry.
  • Blend oil and sherry and dip chicken into the mixture, coating both sides.
  • With spatula, spread sour cream all over the chicken, then roll in cracker crumbs.
  • Place on a greased baking sheet and bake about 25-30 minutes .
