1 tablespoon salt
1 1/4 cups vegetable shortening

1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon biscuit mix, plus 2/3 cups mix
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 cup vegetable shortening, butter flavored
1 teaspoon dry milk
1 quart ziploc bag
1 pint ziploc bag
4 cups fresh picked berries

Steps:

  • Mix sugar, 1 tablespoon biscuit mix, dry milk, and cinnamon in the small bag.
  • In a bowl, mix the remaining biscuit mix with brown sugar, and cut in shortening.
  • Label the large ziploc"cobbler base, add 1/4 cup water at camp".
  • Close it.
  • Label the small bag"topping mix, add 4 handfuls berries".
  • At camp, add the water to the base and mix.
  • Put in a greased dutch oven.
  • Toss berries in bag with topping and spread on cobbler base.
  • Cover tightly and cook in coals or on grill for 30-40 minutes.

2 cups backpacking biscuit mix
1/4 cup powdered milk
1 quart ziploc bag

Steps:

  • Mix biscuit mix and powdered milk.
  • Label the bag "biscuit mix, add 1/2 cup water".
  • At camp, use the bag like a bowl.
  • Stir the water in gently.
  • Pat the dough into biscuit shapes.
  • "Bake" on a griddle, turning when bottom is light golden.
  • If you are cooking something else, you can turn the lid to the pot upside down, grease it, put the dough on, and cover with foil.
  • "Bake" until done.

Roll dough onto foil and make into biscuit shapes. 3. Cook on pan, turning as they brown. Fun Fact: For ease of clean up and to protect from smoke and fire damage, put liquid soap on outside of your pots and pans before putting over the fire.
