In a large saucepan, or Dutch oven, brown beef; drain. Add the water tomatoes and soup mix. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 45 minutes. Add the reserved macaroni cover and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes or until the macaroni, peas, lentils, and barley are tender. Yields 4 quarts.

- Attach a label to the jar with the following instructions: Friendship Soup ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS: 1 pound ground beef, black pepper to taste, garlic powder to taste, 1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes - undrained, 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste, and 3 quarts water. TO PREPARE SOUP: Remove pasta from top of jar, and set aside. In a large pot over medium heat, brown beef with pepper and garlic; drain excess fat. - Combine and mix well.
- Divide into 2 cup packages for home or for gifts with recipe included: Soup Recipe: 2 c.
- Friendship Soup Mix, 2 qt.
- water, 3 stalks celery,chopped, 1 large onion,chopped, 1 lb.
- diced ham, 1 clove minced garlic, 1 (16 oz.) can chopped tomatoes, 1 (10 oz.) can tomatoes with green chilies,chopped, 1 tsp.
- salt, 1/2 tsp.
- pepper.
- Wash the soup mix with water and soak overnight.
- Drain in the morning.
- Add beans to water,celery,onion,ham and garlic.
- Cover and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer 1 1/2 to 2 hours,until beans are tender.
- Add remaining ingredients and simmer 30 minutes,stirring occasionally.
- Makes 8-10 servings.
- This is good to put on the stove and let simmer all day long.
