THE BEST SPINACH ARTICHOKE DIP

The Best Spinach Artichoke Dip image

This is our best version of the classic party dip. It's savory and creamy with a slight tang from sour cream and Parmesan -- so hard to resist. We like to use frozen whole leaf spinach and chop it ourselves for more control over the finished texture of the dish.

Categories     appetizer

Time 40m

Yield 6 to 10 servings

Number Of Ingredients 11

Nonstick cooking spray
8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 clove garlic, grated
One 10-ounce box frozen leaf spinach, thawed, drained, squeezed dry and coarsely chopped (see Cook's Note)
One 14-ounce can artichoke hearts, drained well and coarsely chopped
1/2 cup shredded whole-milk mozzarella
3/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
Crackers, chips or toasted bread, for serving

Steps:

  • Position a rack in the upper third of the oven and preheat to 350 degrees F. Spray a 1-quart baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Put the cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise and garlic in a large bowl. Mix vigorously until combined and smooth. (If you prefer, you can use a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment.) Add the spinach to the cream cheese mixture, breaking it up as you add it. Add the artichokes, mozzarella and 1/2 cup of the Parmesan, mixing to combine. Season with salt and pepper. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and top with the remaining 1/4 cup Parmesan.
  • Bake until the dip begins to bubble, 20 to 25 minutes. Turn the oven to broil and continue to cook, keeping an eye on it so it doesn't burn, until the top is golden brown, about 5 minutes. Serve warm with crackers, chips or toasted bread.

  • 1 cup of shredded cheese (Swiss or cheddar)
  • 1 cup or more of your favorite, store-bought artichoke dip
  • 1/3 cup of milk
  • Salt and pepper
  • Butter
  • Garlic powder

Preparation

Before you start cooking, ensure that you have all of your essential ingredients and cooking utensils at hand. Here are the steps to take to make the perfect Artichoke Dip Breakfast Sandwiches.
Step One: Prepare the Baguette or Sliced Bread
Begin by slicing your baguette or bread to the desired thickness. To achieve the best flavor, use a fresh baguette or bread. If you're using a baguette, it's recommended to slice it into smaller pieces than what you would typically use for a sandwich.
Step Two: Make the Egg Mixture
Crack the eggs into a mixing bowl and whisk until well-combined. Next, add 1/3 cup of milk and season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until fully combined.
Step Three: Prepare the Artichoke Dip
If you choose to make a homemade artichoke dip, prepare it according to the recipe. However, you can also buy store-bought artichoke dip, which makes this step more effortless.
Step Four: Cook the Eggs
Heat a frying pan over medium heat, add a generous knob of butter, and allow it to melt. After the butter has melted, pour in the egg mixture and stir continuously until the eggs are cooked through. Once the eggs have finished cooking, turn off the heat.

Melt a knob of butter in a frying pan over medium heat. Once the butter has melted, add the assembled sandwiches and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, until the cheese is melted and the bread is toasted.
Step Seven: Serve and Enjoy!
Remove the sandwiches from the pan, slice and serve hot.

Tips for Making Perfect Artichoke Dip Breakfast Sandwiches

Tip 1: Use Fresh Ingredients
Using fresh ingredients is essential when preparing your Artichoke Dip Breakfast Sandwiches. Fresh bread, eggs, and artichoke dip will enhance the flavor and texture of the dish.
Tip 2: Choose the Right Cheese
Choosing the right cheese is an essential element when preparing this dish. Swiss and cheddar cheese seem to work best, as they melt quickly and provide a delightful flavor.
Tip 3: Play with Flavors
Although traditional Artichoke Dip Breakfast Sandwiches are delicious, you can add other ingredients to add the flavor. For instance, chopped tomatoes, onions, or jalapenos can add spice and tang to the savory sandwich.
Tip 4: Cook your Eggs Slowly
Eggs cooked slowly taste better than eggs cooked quickly. When making the egg mixture, use low to medium heat to cook the eggs slowly. Stir continuously until the eggs are fully cooked.
Tip 5: Toast your Bread
Toasting your bread will give your sandwich an added crunch and flavor. You can toast the bread in a toaster or a frying pan with a knob of butter.
Tip 6: Use a Non-Stick Frying Pan
Using a non-stick frying pan will help prevent food from sticking to the pan. It also makes cleaning the frying pan more manageable and faster.
Tip 7: Use Salt and Pepper
Salt and pepper are essential seasoning in any recipe, and Artichoke Dip Breakfast Sandwiches are no different. Use salt and pepper to taste, as they will bring out the flavor of the dish.
