Old Bay Marinated and Grilled Shrimp image

These shrimp marinate for only 30 minutes in a flavorful mix of lemon juice, garlic and the powerhouse spice blend, Old Bay seafood seasoning. Don't be tempted to let them sit in the sauce any longer than that because the lemon juice will start to cook the shrimp and make them tough. Serve with some boiled or roasted potatoes for a grill-lover's version of a shrimp boil.

Valuable Tips for Preparing Aquavit Marinated Shrimp

1. Selecting Shrimp:
The key to a successful aquavit marinated shrimp dish lies in selecting the right shrimp. Look for fresh shrimp with firm, pinkish-white flesh and avoid any shrimp that have a grayish or yellowish color. Also, ensure that the shrimp has a mild odor which indicates freshness. To make the dish look more appealing, choose shrimp in uniform size and shape.
2. Handling Shrimp:
To make sure shrimp stays fresh and safe to eat, it is important to handle it properly. After purchasing, move it to the coldest area of your refrigerator and use it within 2-3 days. Before marinating the shrimp, it is important to clean them thoroughly. Rinse the shrimp under cold running water and remove any shell, scales or legs that may still be present on their surface.
3. Using Aquavit:
Aquavit is the most important ingredient in this dish as it imparts its unique flavor to the shrimp. It is a caraway-flavored spirit that is popular in Scandinavian countries. You can buy it from your local liquor store or make your own at home. To make homemade aquavit, you need to infuse your favorite blend of spices with a neutral alcohol such as vodka or gin.
4. Preparing the Marinade:
The marinade used for aquavit shrimp is a combination of herbs, spices and other flavoring agents. The most common marinating ingredients include dill, lemon juice, red pepper flakes, garlic, salt and black pepper. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and whisk them together until well combined. If you prefer a more intense flavor, leave the shrimp to marinate for a longer period.
5. Cooking the Shrimp:
To cook the shrimp, bring a pot of salted water to boil then add the shrimp. Cook the shrimp for about 2-3 minutes or until they turn pink and opaque. Do not overcook the shrimp as this can result in tough and chewy meat. Once cooked, strain the shrimp in a colander and rinse them under cold water to stop the cooking process.
