Number Of Ingredients 18

2 cups flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup applesauce, recipe follows
1 1/2 cups raisins
Powdered sugar, for garnish
6 apples, McIntosh preferred
1 cup water
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, optional

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  • In a bowl, combine the dry ingredients and set aside.
  • In the bowl of a standing mixer, fitted with a paddle attachment, cream the butter. Add the brown sugar and continue creaming. Then add the eggs and applesauce mixing well. Gradually add the dry ingredients and raisins to make dough.
  • Drop by rounded tablespoons onto a greased cookie sheet (save those butter papers!) and bake until light golden brown, about 9 to13 minutes. The cookies do not brown very much. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
  • Peel and core apples and cut into quarters. Place them in an enamel sauce pan with the water and lemon juice then bring to a boil then turn the heat down slightly and simmer 30 minutes to break them down and get them to thicken. Take off the heat and stir in the sugar and cinnamon, if using.

This article will provide you with valuable tips on how to make the perfect applesauce spice cookies with browned butter cream cheese frosting using some tweaks that will make your dessert stand out.

Tip 1: Use the Right Ingredients

Excellence in cooking is dependent on using quality ingredients. One of the best things you can do when it comes to making applesauce spice cookies with browned butter cream cheese frosting is to use fresh, high-quality ingredients. McCann’s Steel Cut Oatmeal, Bob’s Red Mill Organic Whole Wheat Pastry Flour, and Unsalted Kerrygold Butter are all examples of premium ingredients that you should consider using in your recipe.

Tip 2: Watch Your Measurements

Just like using the right ingredients, creating the best applesauce spice cookies with browned butter cream cheese frosting also depends heavily on accurate measurements. Be sure to measure everything from the flour to the spices, and even the applesauce, ensuring that you don't use more or less than required in the recipe. This precision in measurement will ensure that your cookies taste and look exactly as they should.

Tip 3: Incorporate Flavorful Spices

Spices are the key to making cookies that taste great. For applesauce spice cookies, the addition of a blend of nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, and ginger will give them the taste and aroma of a classic festive dessert. Spices should be measured carefully and finely mixed into the dough to ensure uniform flavor throughout the cookies.

Tip 4: Use Quick Cooking Oats

Quick cooking oatmeal, like McCann's Steel Cut Oats or Bob's Red Mill Organic Quick Cooking Oats, is perfect for making applesauce spice cookies. The oatmeal will hold up in the cookie dough and add an extra dimension of texture that makes them stand out from other cookies. The quick-cooking oats are also easy to incorporate into the dough, and they can be mixed in with the flour and spices.

Tip 5: Use Browned Butter Cream Cheese Frosting

Browned butter cream cheese frosting is a game-changer when it comes to cookies. This frosting is made by browning butter in a pan and then adding in cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla. The browned butter will give the frosting a caramel-like flavor and add another level of complexity to the overall taste of the dessert.

Tip 6: Chill Your Dough

While it can be tempting to start baking your applesauce spice cookies right after making the dough, it's best to chill the dough for about an hour or so before baking. Chilling the dough will make it easier to handle, and it will lead to cookies that are softer on the inside and crispy on the outside. The added bonus is that by chilling the dough, the flavors will meld together and become even more pronounced.

Tip 7: Opt for Smaller Cookies

Boot-sized cookies can be overwhelming, and a smaller size is great for entertaining or portion control. Smaller cookies mean you can have more servings and more variety. Plus, small cookies are easier to bake, especially if you have to make lots at once.
Conclusion
By following these valuable tips, you can make the perfect applesauce spice cookies with browned butter cream cheese frosting that will delight your family and guests. Remember to use high-quality ingredients, watch your measurements, incorporate flavorful spices, use quick-cooking oats, and chill your dough. Top off your cookies with a delicious browned butter cream cheese frosting that everyone will love. Happy baking!
