2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda

¼ teaspoon ground cloves
½ cup raisins
½ cup chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • Cream butter or margarine with sugar. Add applesauce; beat well. Stir in flour, soda, and spices. Add nuts and raisins.
  • Pour the batter into a greased and floured 8 inch square pan. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 40 minutes, or until done. Serve warm.

1 ½ cups white sugar
1 cup applesauce
2 eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
½ teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour 2 (8 inch) round pans, OR 1 (9x13 inch) pan. Sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Blend in the applesauce. Beat in the eggs one at a time. Beat in the flour mixture, mixing just until incorporated. Stir in the raisins and walnuts. Spread batter into prepared pan.

3/4 cup raisins
1 cup hot water
1/2 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
1 large egg
2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon each ground cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg
1-1/2 cups applesauce
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Confectioners' sugar, optional

Steps:

  • Place raisins and hot water in a small bowl; set aside. , In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg. Combine the flour, baking soda, salt and spices; add to creamed mixture alternately with applesauce and water.
