Ground Beef Hash image

This recipe came with a skillet I purchased many years ago. It became a family favorite, even with my picky eater. Its very easy and quick to make. Served with a salad and it's a very satisfying meal. Great the next day too.

Number Of Ingredients 11

1/4 cup(s) butter or margarine
4 large onions, coarsely chopped
2 large green peppers, thinly sliced
2 pound(s) ground beef
2 teaspoon(s) chili powder
2 teaspoon(s) salt
1/2 teaspoon(s) pepper
4 (14 oz) can(s) whole tomatoes
1 cup(s) water

- shredded cheddar

Steps:

  • Preheat skillet to 350. Melt butter or margarine. Add onions and green peppers to skillet and saute until soft. Transfer to plate.
  • Add meat to skillet and cook until meat is browned, stirring occasionally to break up large pieces. Drain off fat.
  • Return onions and peppers to skillet and stir in chili powder, salt and pepper. Then add tomatoes, water and rice. Stir to mix. Reduce temperature and simmer covered, for 35-40 minutes or until rice is tender. Stir occasionally.
