Easy and delicious breakfast bar (healthy too!). They are no-bake. I usually use Raisin Bran or Bran Flakes for the cereal part, but Corn flakes, cheerios, or even rice krispies would be great. From BHG.

When it comes to breakfast, it's important to choose something that's easy to make and healthy at the same time. Apple walnut breakfast bars are a perfect choice for a quick and nutritious breakfast on-the-go. They're packed with fiber, vitamins, and minerals that can help you stay full and energized throughout the day. However, making these bars can be tricky, especially if you're new to baking. In this article, we'll provide you with some valuable tips on how to make the perfect apple walnut breakfast bars that are both delicious and nutritious.

Tip #1: Use the Right Apples

The type of apples you use in your breakfast bars can greatly affect the flavor and texture of your final product. It's best to use firm apples that hold their shape well when baked, like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp. These apples have a tart flavor that complements the sweetness of the other ingredients and adds a nice crunch to your bars. Avoid using soft or overripe apples, as they'll turn mushy and make your bars soggy.

Tip #2: Toast Your Walnuts

Toasting your walnuts before adding them to your breakfast bars can greatly enhance their flavor and texture. Simply spread the walnuts on a baking sheet and toast them in the oven for about 10-15 minutes at 350°F. Once they're done, let them cool and chop them into small pieces. The toasting process will bring out the natural oils in the walnuts, making them more fragrant and crunchy.

Tip #3: Use the Right Pan

The type of pan you use to bake your breakfast bars can affect the way they cook and turn out. It's best to use a 9x13 inch baking dish that's lined with parchment paper to prevent the bars from sticking. Avoid using a smaller pan, as this will result in thicker bars that may not cook evenly. A larger pan may result in thinner bars that are too crunchy.

Tip #4: Don't Overmix Your Batter

When making your batter, it's important to mix the ingredients just until they're combined. Overmixing can cause the bars to become tough and dense. Use a spatula to gently fold in the ingredients, making sure not to stir too vigorously. It's okay if there are still some lumps in the batter, as this will give your bars a nice texture.

Tip #5: Add Some Spices

Spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger can enhance the flavor of your breakfast bars and make them taste even more delicious. You can add these spices to your batter or sprinkle them on top of your bars before baking. Be careful not to add too much, as these spices can be overpowering if used in excess.

Tip #6: Let Your Bars Cool Before Cutting

Once your bars are done baking, it's important to let them cool completely before cutting them into squares. Cutting them while they're still warm can cause them to crumble and fall apart. Let them cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. Once they're cool, you can cut them into squares of your desired size.

Tip #7: Store Your Bars Properly

To keep your apple walnut breakfast bars fresh and delicious, it's important to store them properly. You can keep them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. You can also freeze them for up to three months. To freeze them, wrap them individually in plastic wrap and then place them in a freezer bag. When you're ready to eat them, simply let them thaw at room temperature for about 30-60 minutes.

Conclusion

Making apple walnut breakfast bars is a great way to start your day off on the right foot. With these valuable tips, you can make sure that your bars turn out perfectly every time. Use the right apples, toast your walnuts, use the right pan, don't overmix your batter, add some spices, let your bars cool before cutting, and store them properly. With these tips in mind, you'll be able to whip up delicious and nutritious breakfast bars that you can enjoy anytime, anywhere.
