Choose the Right Apples for the Recipe In addition to choosing the right sweet potatoes, you will also want to choose the right apples for the recipe. You will want to choose apples that are firm and not too sweet, as this will help balance out the sweetness of the sweet potatoes. Some great apple varieties to use include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Pink Lady apples. Prepare the Sweet Potatoes Properly Before you can stuff the sweet potatoes with the apple mixture, you will need to prepare them properly. The first step is to wash the sweet potatoes thoroughly and pierce them with a fork to allow steam to escape while cooking. Next, you will want to wrap the sweet potatoes in foil and bake them in the oven until they are tender and cooked through.
