APPLE OATMEAL BREAKFAST BREAD

Apple Oatmeal Breakfast Bread image

Many people know that a bowl of oatmeal is a healthy way to start the day. There's a lot of nutrition packed into that bowl of goodness, including whole-grain oats, spicy cinnamon and usually fruit and nuts on top. I set out to create a quick bread that had all the nourishment of a bowl of oatmeal -- but that would be easy to slice and take with you.

Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 18

3 tablespoons uncooked oats
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Nonstick cooking spray
1 cup (3.2 ounces) uncooked oats
1 cup (4.2 ounces) whole-wheat pastry flour or all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup honey
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
3 large eggs
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 cups (9.7 ounces) shredded, unpeeled apples (about 2 large)
1/3 cup chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • For the crumble topping: Combine the oats, butter, brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl; set aside.
  • For the bread: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Cut out an 8-by-4-inch rectangle of parchment paper and put in the bottom of a 9-by-5-inch loaf pan. Spray the pan and paper with cooking spray.
  • Put the oats in a blender and blend to a flour-like consistency. Combine the oat flour, wheat flour, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a large bowl.
  • Combine the honey, oil, vanilla and eggs in a medium bowl; add the sugar, stirring until combined. Add the apples and stir until well combined. Add the flour mixture and stir just until combined. Gently stir in the walnuts.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and sprinkle with the crumble topping. Bake until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 1 hour. Cool in the pan on a wire rack 10 minutes, then remove from the pan to the rack and cool completely.

Why Apple Oatmeal Breakfast Bread?

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It’s essential to have a balanced breakfast that provides all the necessary nutrients to start your day. Apple oatmeal breakfast bread is one such recipe that is packed with fiber, vitamins, and minerals, making it a healthy and tasty breakfast option. Oatmeal, with its high fiber content, can lower cholesterol levels and keep you full longer. Apples contain antioxidants that are good for your heart, and they’re also a good source of vitamin C. Combining them together makes for a nutritious and delicious breakfast.

Tips for Making Apple Oatmeal Breakfast Bread

Tip 1: Choose the Right Apples
The key to making the best apple oatmeal breakfast bread recipe is to choose the right apples. You want to use apples that are sweet but not too sweet, and firm. Avoid apples that are mushy, bruised, or overripe. A good option is Granny Smith apples as they are firm, slightly tart, and hold their shape well when baked.
Tip 2: Add Some Crunch with Nuts
Adding nuts to your apple oatmeal breakfast bread recipe is a great way to add some texture and crunch. Walnuts or pecans work well in this recipe, as they complement the sweetness of the apples, add a nutty flavor, and provide some extra protein and healthy fats.
Tip 3: Use Rolled Oats
When making apple oatmeal breakfast bread, it’s important to use rolled oats instead of quick oats or instant oats. Rolled oats are less processed and have a chewy texture that gives the bread a hearty and rustic feel. Quick oats or instant oats will break down too much in the bread, resulting in a more mushy texture.
Tip 4: Avoid Overmixing
Overmixing the batter when making apple oatmeal breakfast bread can result in a tough and dry bread. Mix the wet and dry ingredients until just combined, leaving a few lumps in the batter. This will ensure that the bread is moist and tender.
Tip 5: Use a Lined Loaf Pan
Using a lined loaf pan is essential when making apple oatmeal breakfast bread. Line the loaf pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil to prevent the bread from sticking to the pan. This also makes it easier to remove the bread from the pan and slice it.
Tip 6: Add Some Spice
Adding spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger to your apple oatmeal breakfast bread recipe will elevate the flavor and aroma of the bread. These spices complement the sweetness of the apples and give the bread a warm and comforting flavor.
Tip 7: Don’t Overbake
Overbaking the apple oatmeal breakfast bread can result in a dry and crumbly texture. Keep an eye on the bread and remove it from the oven when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. The bread will continue to cook a little as it cools, so don’t worry if it’s slightly underbaked when you take it out of the oven.
Tip 8: Serve Warm or Toasted
Apple oatmeal breakfast bread tastes best when it’s warm or toasted. Toast a slice of bread and add a little butter or jam for a quick and easy breakfast. Or serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delicious dessert.

Conclusion

Apple oatmeal breakfast bread is a healthy and flavorful breakfast option that’s easy to make. With the right apples, nuts, and spices, you can create a delicious and nutritious breakfast bread that’s perfect for busy mornings. Use these tips to make the best apple oatmeal breakfast bread recipe, and enjoy a slice of warm and comforting bread to start your day off right.
