These bars typically consist of a buttery oat crust, a layer of sweet and tangy apple filling, and a creamy, sweet cheesecake topping. The combination of chewy oats, tart apples, and rich cream cheese makes for a perfect bite of fall decadence.

Ingredients for Apple Oat Cheesecake Bars

The ingredients for an apple oat cheesecake bar recipe may vary depending on the specific recipe, but usually include:
Oat Crust:
  • 1 1/2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
Apple Filling:
  • 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Cheesecake Topping:
  • 8 oz cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

How to Make Apple Oat Cheesecake Bars

To make apple oat cheesecake bars, you will need to follow a few simple steps:
1. Preheat the oven and prepare the pan:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
2. Make the oat crust:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, salt, and baking soda. Stir in the melted butter until the mixture is crumbly. Reserve 1/2 cup of the mixture for later use, and press the remaining mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan.
3. Prepare the apple filling:
In a medium saucepan, combine the sliced apples, lemon juice, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the apples are soft and the mixture has thickened. Pour the apple filling over the oat crust.
4. Make the cheesecake topping:
In a separate mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and granulated sugar together until smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined. Pour the cheesecake mixture over the apple filling, and smooth out the top with a spatula.
5. Add the oat crumble:
Using your hands, crumble the reserved oat mixture over the top of the cheesecake layer until fully covered.
6. Bake the bars:
Bake the bars in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the cheesecake layer is set. Remove the pan from the oven and allow it to cool completely on a wire rack.

Variations of Apple Oat Cheesecake Bars

While the classic apple oat cheesecake bar recipe is delicious on its own, there are plenty of ways to add creative twists to make this dessert even more exciting. Here are a few variations to consider:
Caramel Apple Oat Cheesecake Bars:
Instead of a traditional apple filling, top the oat crust with a layer of caramel sauce and sliced apples before adding the cheesecake and oat crumble layers.
Maple Pecan Apple Oat Cheesecake Bars:
Incorporate chopped pecans into the oat crumble and add a layer of maple syrup to the apple filling for a nutty and sweet variation.
Cinnamon Apple Oat Cheesecake Bars:
Increase the amount of cinnamon in the apple filling and oat crumble for a spiced-up version of this classic recipe.

Conclusion

Apple oat cheesecake bars are a decadent and flavorful dessert that perfectly captures the essence of fall flavors. The combination of a buttery oat crust, sweet and tangy apple filling, and creamy cheesecake topping is sure to satisfy even the most discerning foodie. With a few simple variations, this dessert can be customized to fit any taste preference or occasion.
Apple oat cheesecake bars are a fantastic dessert that combines the creamy goodness of cheesecake with the sweetness of apples and the hearty texture of oats. While they may seem daunting to make, these tips will make your recipe a breeze.

Tips for Making Apple Oat Cheesecake Bars

1. Choose the Right Apples
The type of apple you choose to use in your recipe can make a big difference in the final taste of the dessert. Apples that are sweeter, like Pink Lady or Honeycrisp, work best in this recipe. They hold up well during baking and add a nice sweetness that pairs well with the cheesecake filling.
2. Use Rolled Oats
When selecting oats for your recipe, it's important to use rolled oats instead of quick oats. Rolled oats provide a heartier texture that holds up well during baking, while quick oats tend to become too mushy and can compromise the overall texture of the dessert.
3. Let the Cream Cheese Soften
Before making the cheesecake filling, it's essential to allow the cream cheese to soften at room temperature. Trying to mix cold cream cheese can leave you with lumpy cheesecake that doesn't set well. Letting the cream cheese soften also makes it easier to mix with the other ingredients.
4. Don't Overmix the Cheesecake Filling
When making the cheesecake filling, it's essential to avoid overmixing. Overmixing can introduce air pockets into the filling, which can cause it to puff up during baking and then collapse when cooling, leaving you with a droopy cheesecake. Mix the filling until it's just combined and smooth.
5. Line the Pan With Parchment Paper
To ensure your apple oat cheesecake bars don't stick to the baking pan, it's essential to line the pan with parchment paper. This will also make it easier to remove the bars from the pan and cut them cleanly.
6. Add Toppings at the End
While toppings like chopped nuts or caramel sauce can add an extra layer of flavor to your dessert, it's best to add them at the end, after the bars have finished baking and cooling. This will prevent the toppings from sticking to the parchment paper or becoming soggy.
7. Let the Bars Cool Completely
It can be tempting to eat the apple oat cheesecake bars right away, but it's important to let them cool completely before cutting and serving. Cooling time allows the cheesecake filling to set and the flavors to meld together, resulting in a more cohesive and delicious dessert.

Conclusion

Making apple oat cheesecake bars can seem intimidating, but with these tips, you're well on your way to creating a delicious and impressive dessert. Remember to choose the right apples, use rolled oats, let the cream cheese soften, avoid overmixing the filling, line the pan with parchment paper, add toppings at the end, and let the bars cool completely before serving. With a little practice, you'll be making perfect apple oat cheesecake bars in no time!
