A delicious apple crumble made without gluten. My son was intolerant of coconut, so it is also free of that, using flaked almonds instead. In place of the self-raising flour you can simply add 3 teaspoons of gluten-free baking powder to 1 1/2 cups of any all purpose gluten-free flour mix.

However, that doesn't mean you have to miss out on the delicious taste of apple crumble. Making an apple crumble that meets all of your dietary needs is easy with the right tips and tricks. This article will discuss the valuable tips that you can use to make an apple crumble that is gluten-free, dairy-free and egg-free.

Tip 1: Use gluten-free flour

To make an apple crumble gluten-free, one of the essential things you need to do is to use gluten-free flour. You can use gluten-free flour blends such as rice flour, tapioca flour, and potato flour. Gluten-free flour blends are readily available to purchase, or you can make your own blend by mixing different gluten-free flours. By using gluten-free flour, you can make sure that your apple crumble does not contain any gluten, which is a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye that can cause an adverse reaction in people with gluten intolerance.

Tip 2: Substitute margarine or coconut oil for butter

Traditional apple crumble recipes require butter to be mixed with flour to create a crumbly topping. However, butter is not suitable for people who follow a dairy-free diet. You can substitute margarine or coconut oil for butter to make a dairy-free crumble topping. Margarine can be used in the same amount as butter, while coconut oil can be used in a slightly lesser amount than butter. Both margarine and coconut oil will give you the same rich and buttery flavor as real butter.

Tip 3: Use almond flour for the topping

Almond flour is an excellent gluten-free substitute for traditional flour in apple crumble recipes. Almond flour is made from ground almonds and has a nutty and slightly sweet flavor. It is a versatile ingredient that can be used in both the crumble topping and the filling. Almond flour adds a unique texture to the crumble topping and can turn your apple crumble into a healthier dessert option.

Tip 4: Use oats for a crunchy texture

Oats are naturally gluten-free, and they add an excellent crunchy texture to apple crumble toppings. Oats are a great addition to any gluten-free apple crumble recipe. You can use certified gluten-free oats for an added level of safety. Oats are a good source of fiber, vitamins, and minerals, and they are an excellent way to add some nutritional value to your apple crumble.

Tip 5: Add spices for flavor

Adding spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg to your gluten-free, dairy-free and egg-free apple crumble recipe can add so much flavor. Cinnamon is a classic spice for apple desserts and provides a warm, sweet flavor that complements the tartness of the apples. Nutmeg is another popular spice for apple desserts and has a slightly sweet and nutty flavor.

Tip 6: Use coconut sugar instead of refined sugar

Coconut sugar is an excellent natural sweetener and is a great option for people who follow a dairy-free, gluten-free, and egg-free diet. Coconut sugar has a lower glycemic index than refined sugar, which means that it causes a slower and steady rise in blood sugar levels. Coconut sugar also has a rich caramel-like flavor that can add depth to your apple crumble. You can use coconut sugar in the same amount as refined sugar.

Tip 7: Apple Varieties Matter

In making apple crumble with your unique dietary restrictions, you should select the right apple variety. Apples are essential for the filling of the apple crumble, and each variety has its style of taste, texture, and sweetness level. You can choose from apples like Braeburn, Golden Delicious, Honeycrisp, Jonathan, Pink Lady, Granny Smith, and many more. Some apple variety is ideal for pies, salads and others for apple crumbles.

Conclusion

In conclusion, making an apple crumble that meets your dietary needs is possible with the right tips and tricks. By using gluten-free flour, almond flour, margarine or coconut oil, oats, spices, and coconut sugar, you can create a delicious and healthy apple crumble that you and your family can enjoy. Remember, apple crumble is a fantastic dessert, and it is even more fantastic when it is made to meet your dietary restrictions.
