ANOTHER CORNBREAD CASSEROLE

Another Cornbread Casserole image

As is often the case, when I checked to see if this recipe was on the 'Zaar, there were a bunch that were oh, so close, but none quite like mine. Which surprised the heck out of me since I got my version from Taste of Home. Very good stuff, sweet and dense. I love this casserole, not just because it is a cinch, tastes great, and is inexpensive, but also because my picky picky DD loves it.

Cornbread casserole is a delicious comfort food that is easy to make and is perfect for family dinners, potlucks, and parties. It’s a versatile dish that can be customized to suit different tastes, and there are countless variations of cornbread casserole recipes out there. If you’re looking to make another cornbread casserole recipe, here are some valuable tips to consider.

Tip 1: Choose the right cornmeal

The cornmeal you use is the key to making a tasty cornbread casserole. Choose a fine-grained cornmeal that is labeled as “stone-ground” or “whole-grain” for the best flavor and texture. Avoid using cornmeal that is labeled as “degerminated” or “instant”, as these varieties can lead to a dry, crumbly cornbread.

Tip 2: Add extra flavor with cheese, herbs, and spices

Cornbread casserole is a versatile dish that can be customized with different ingredients to add extra flavor. Consider adding shredded cheese, fresh herbs, and spices like chili powder or cumin to make your recipe unique. You can also add diced onions, garlic, or peppers for extra flavor and texture.

Tip 3: Use creamed corn or sour cream for a moist texture

Cornbread casserole can be prone to being dry and crumbly, so it’s important to add ingredients that will keep it moist. You can add a can of creamed corn or a dollop of sour cream to your recipe to create a moist, tender cornbread. Yogurt, buttermilk, or even mayonnaise can also be used as a substitute for sour cream.

Tip 4: Use a cast-iron skillet for even cooking

A cast-iron skillet is the ideal pan for making cornbread casserole, as it distributes heat evenly and creates a crispy crust. If you don’t have a cast-iron skillet, you can use a baking dish or a casserole dish, but be sure to grease it to prevent the cornbread from sticking.

Tip 5: Don’t overmix the batter

When making the cornbread batter, it’s important not to overmix it. Overmixing can lead to a tough, dry cornbread. Mix the ingredients until they are just combined, and avoid using a mixer or food processor. A whisk or a wooden spoon is all you need to mix the batter.

Tip 6: Experiment with different toppings

Cornbread casserole can be topped with a variety of ingredients to add extra flavor and texture. Consider topping your cornbread with sliced jalapenos, diced tomatoes, or crumbled bacon. You can also sprinkle shredded cheese, chopped herbs, or even crushed tortilla chips on top.

Tip 7: Let the cornbread casserole cool before serving

Cornbread casserole is best served warm, but it’s important to let it cool for at least 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving. This will give the cornbread time to set and prevent it from falling apart. Serve the cornbread casserole with your favorite toppings and enjoy!
Conclusion
Cornbread casserole is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for family dinners, potlucks, and parties. By following these valuable tips, you can make another cornbread casserole recipe that is flavorful, moist, and perfectly cooked. Experiment with different ingredients and toppings to create a unique recipe that your friends and family will love. Enjoy!
