THE BEST BANANA BREAD

The Best Banana Bread image

We have a lot of requirements when it comes to banana bread and we finally created a recipe that ticks all the boxes. It's moist, tender, a little tangy and perfectly sweet-all around our favorite one. The best part is that it's even better the next day (if it lasts that long). Try toasting the bread and slathering with a little salted butter. We're pretty sure you'll never need another banana bread recipe.

Time 1h30m

Yield 1 loaf

Number Of Ingredients 13

1/2 cup melted unsalted butter or vegetable oil, plus more for greasing pan
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour (see Cook's Note)
1 cup toasted pecans, chopped
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Fine salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
1/4 cup buttermilk, sour cream or yogurt
1/2 cup light brown sugar, lightly packed
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
4 soft, very ripe, darkly speckled medium bananas, mashed (about 1 1/2 cups)

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly butter one 9-by-5-inch loaf pan.
  • Whisk together the flour, pecans, granulated sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon salt and nutmeg in a large bowl. Whisk together the eggs, melted butter, buttermilk, brown sugar and vanilla in a medium bowl; stir in the mashed bananas. Fold the banana mixture into the flour mixture until just combined (it's OK if there are some lumps).
  • Pour the batter into the buttered pan and lightly tap the pan on the counter to evenly distribute the batter. Bake until browned and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out completely clean, about 1 hour. Let the bread cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then turn out onto a rack to cool completely.

Time 1h15m

Yield 1 Loaf, 5 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

4 overripe bananas
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup pecans

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9 by 5-inch loaf pan.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt, set aside.
  • With a fork, mash 2 of the bananas in a small bowl so they still have some texture.
  • Beat the remaining 2 bananas and sugar together for about 3 minutes.
  • Add the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla to the banana/sugar mixture, mix well.
  • Mix in the dry ingredients just until they are incorporated, no need to over-mix.
  • Fold in the pecans and the mashed bananas.
  • Pour the batter in the loaf pan, and give it a rap against the counter to remove any air bubbles.
  • Bake for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, until golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Don't worry if the bread develops a crack down the middle, it's common and won't hurt a thing!
  • Let cool for about 10 minutes in the pan, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Banana bread is a timeless classic that has been a beloved treat for generations. It is the perfect easy-to-make snack that can satisfy your cravings for something sweet and delicious. And when it comes to banana bread, Angie's to die for banana bread recipes are some of the best. However, making the perfect banana bread can be challenging. But don't worry, with these valuable tips, you can create a perfect banana bread that will be to die for!

Tip 1: Use Ripe Bananas

The key to making a perfect banana bread is to use ripe bananas. This means bananas that have lots of brown spots on them. When bananas ripen, their sugar content increases, making them sweeter and more flavorful. Ripe bananas also have a softer texture that makes them easier to mash and incorporate into the batter. So, the next time you want to make banana bread, make sure to use bananas that are ripe to get the best flavor and texture.

Tip 2: Use the Right Flour

Choosing the right type of flour is crucial for making a good banana bread. You can use all-purpose flour, but for a more delicate and tender texture, try using cake flour or pastry flour. Cake flour has a lower protein content than all-purpose flour, making it ideal for cakes and other delicate baked goods. Pastry flour is similar to cake flour but has a slightly higher protein content. Using these types of flour will result in a lighter and more delicate texture, which will make your banana bread more delicious.

Tip 3: Use Brown Sugar

Using brown sugar instead of white sugar can add a deeper flavor and a hint of caramel to your banana bread. Brown sugar also adds moisture and can give your banana bread a softer texture. If you want a deeper and more complex flavor, try using dark brown sugar instead of light brown sugar.

Tip 4: Add Some Nuts

Adding nuts is a great way to add texture and flavor to your banana bread. Walnuts, pecans, and almonds are great options. Toast the nuts before adding them to the batter to enhance their flavor. Chop the nuts into small pieces and fold them into the batter just before baking.

Tip 5: Don't Overmix the Batter

Overmixing the batter can result in a tough, dense banana bread. Mix the batter until the ingredients are just combined, and there are no visible pockets of dry flour. Overmixing can also result in the bread not rising properly or having a wonky shape. So, make sure you are gentle when mixing the ingredients to get the perfect texture you desire.

Tip 6: Don't Overbake Your Banana Bread

Overbaking your banana bread will result in a dry and tough loaf. You want to take the bread out of the oven when it is lightly golden brown on the outside and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. When you overbake it, it will end up being unpleasant to eat and will lead to disappointment.

Tip 7: Add Some Spice

Adding some spice to your banana bread will take it to the next level. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger are excellent options. Add about a teaspoon of your preferred spice to the dry ingredients and mix well. Note that the addition of extra spices may change the color or texture of the bread.

Tip 8: Use a Loaf Pan

Using a loaf pan will help your banana bread cook evenly and give it the classic shape that we are all familiar with. Grease the loaf pan well to ensure easy removal of the bread once cooked. You can also sprinkle some flour on the pan before adding in the batter to prevent sticking.

Tip 9: Let it Cool

Before slicing into your freshly baked banana bread, give it some time to cool down. Let it cool for at least 10 minutes before removing it from the pan, as well. This will help the bread maintain its shape and texture. Avoid slicing the bread while it is hot because it will not slice well and the bread may be too soft.

Tip 10: Store Properly

Proper storage is essential for keeping your banana bread fresh and moist. Wrap it in aluminum foil or plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator for up to five days. You can also freeze the bread for up to three months. Thaw the bread in the refrigerator before serving.
Conclusion
With these valuable tips, you can make Angie's to die for banana bread recipe and have something that is delicious, packed with flavor and has a perfectly tender texture every time you bake it. Taking care to use ripe bananas, the right flour, adding nuts or spice with proportion, mixing the batter with care and baking it to perfection will result in a delightful banana bread that you will want to make again and again. Try these tips and experiment with new variations to find your personal twist, and soon you'll have your perfect homemade banana bread recipe in your hands!
